"Thermae Romae" Manga Author Receives the New Face Award of Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts

The presentation ceremony will be held in Tokyo on March 15

Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs announced the recipients of the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts for the year 2015 on March 9. It honors people who left excellent achievements in 11 categories of art every year. 

 

Following Naruto's Masashi Kishimoto in the previous year and voice actress/singer Nana Mizuki (the public entertainment category) in 2013, 48-year-old Eri Yamazaki received the New Face Award in the media art category for her manga adaption of Walter Isaacson's Steve Jobs biography and other works.

 

She has been also internationally famous for her comedy series Thermae Romae which has sold over 9 million copes. The prize money for the New Face Award is 200,000 yen (about 1,770 US dollars). The presentation ceremony will be held at Toshi Center Hotel in Tokyo at 16:00 on March 15.
