Toho Cinemas Hosts "Studio Ghibli General Election"

Top 5 films selected by fans will receive limited theatrical screenings in Japan in September

To celebrate the release of The Red Turtle, the latest film co-produced by Studio Ghibli, Toho Cinemas is sponsoring a "Studio Ghibli General Election" that allows fans to vote for their favorite among a list of 21 films, and the top 5 films will receive limited theatrical screenings in Japan in September of 2016.

 

Above: The current leaders of the "Studio Ghibli General Election" as of August 20, 2016: Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

 

The "Studio Ghibli General Election" is being held on the official Japanese home page for The Red Turtle (viewable here). The contest runs until August 28, 2016, and the winners will be announced on September 06, 2016. The Red Turtle will be released in Japanese theaters on September 17, 2016.

 

 

The winning films will receive limited theatrical screenings from September 10 - September 16, 2016, at the following locations: Sapporo Cinema Fontier, Toho Cinemas Roppongi Hills, Toho Cinemas Nagoya Bay City, Toho Cinemas Umeda, and Toho Cinemas Tenjin.
