"Made in Abyss" Takes the Plunge into TV Anime

Masayuki Kojima directs and Kinema Citrus animates for adaptation of web manga by Akihito Tukushi

Made in Abyss - a fantasy web manga Akihito Tukushi about a young girl and a robot boy exploring a gigantic, bottomless chasm in search of adventure - is being adapted into a TV anime.

Masayuki Kojima (Monster) is attached to direct, while Hideyuki Kurata (Drifters) will provide the series composition and Kazuchika Kise (Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie) will provide the character designs. The animation production will be handled by Kinema Citrus (YUYUSHIKI).

The original Made in Abyss web manga is published in the Web Comic Gamma digital publication on Takeshobo's Manga Life Win website. The story is set in a world where adventurers explore a gigantic, bottomless chasm known as the Abyss in search of mysterious relics. Rico, an orphaned 12 year old girl, wishes to become a famous explorer like her late mother, and one day she meets a strange robot boy named Regu who might be able to help her in her quest.
