Japan Box Office: 3rd "Yo-Kai Watch" Film Returns to Top Spot

Shinkai's "Your Name." has earned a gigantic 22.9 billion yen

According to the latest box office report in Japan for the weekend of January 7 and 8, Eiga Yo-Kai Watch Soratobu Kujira to Double Sekai no Daibouken da Nyan! (Yo-Kai Watch The Movie: The Great Adventure of the Flying Whale and the Double World), the third feature film from the Yo-Kai Watch anime franchise, returned to the top spot in its fourth weekend, beating the two-time weekend box office winner Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. We can remember that the film also attracted more moviegoers than another Hollywood big budget film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in its first weekend of release.

  

Shinkai's Kimi no Na wa./Your Name. is still going strong at the box office, keeping the third place for two weeks in its 20th weekend. As of January 9, it has made a huge 22.9 billion yen from its domestic run. Meanwhile, the anime film adaptation of Fumiyo Kouno's award-winning manga Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni/In This Corner of the World also stayed in the top 10 for nine consecutive weeks since

its release on November 12, 2016. The World War II drama has made 1.1 billion yen from the 860,000

ticket sales in Japan.
