Noritake Kinashi Ages Up for "Inuyashiki" Role

Comedian joins "Kamen Rider Den-O" lead in sci-fi manga adaptation.

In the manga Inuyashiki, the title character -- an old, kindhearted man -- receives a super-strong mechanical body after a mysterious explosion in a public park. To make that work in a live-action adaptation, you'd either have to age up a younger man or find Japan's version of Jack Palance. In this case, the casting directors went for the former, casting 55-year-old actor/comedian Noritaki Kinashi in the lead:

Kinashi, whose last major film role was in 2002's Ryōma no Tsuma to sono Otto to Aijin, needed a bit of work done to match the appearance of the manga's elderly Ichiro Inuyashiki. The role requires him to become something of a hero, using his new-found strength to fight crime and heal the sick.

Meanwhile, Takeru Satoh will be taking on the role of Hiro Shishigami, another person caught in the blast who uses his own new powers to become the country's most wanted criminal. Fans will recognize Satoh as the lead in Kamen Rider Den-O, and as Himura Kenshin in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin adaptations.

Other cast members include Kanata Hongo (Armin in the Attack on Titan films), Fumi Nikaido (Tsugumi Tsugaru in Frankenstein's Love), Ayaka Miyoshi (Meiri Miyaji, GTO) as Mari Inuyashiki, Nayuta Fukuzaki (Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends) as Takeshi Inuyashiki, Mari Hamada (Mai Sakamaki, Liar Game) as Marie Inuyashiki, Yuki Saito (Kyoko Mizusawa, Iryu Sosa) as Yuko Shishigama, and Yusuke Iseya (Jotaru Kujo in the live-action JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) as Detective Hagihara.

The live-action Inuyashiki will be directed by Shinsuke Sato (GANTZ, Death Note: Light Up the New World) and is set to premiere next year. An anime adaptation from Noitamina is also in production.
