On Monday, a Twitter user posted photos of their office's automated security system after the robot apparently committed suicide via a dunk in local wishing fountain. Social media responded with a collective (paraphrasing) "oh ****!!, that's some Nier: Automata business!" And, this came to the attention of the game's director/scenario writer, who responded (paraphrasing) "oh ****!!, that's some Nier: Automata business!"
Actually, Yoko Taro passed along that what comes to mind is "kami ni naru," as in "minna shinde kami ni naru," "we will all die and become gods."
