Ninja Clans Wage War in "Basilisk" TV Anime

New chapter continues the story of Masaki Segawa's "Basilisk - The Kouga Ninja Scrolls" manga

Only a ninja can kill a ninja, and the war between the Kouga and Iga clans is returning to Japanese TV, because a new chapter of Masaki Segawa's Basilisk - The Kouga Ninja Scrolls manga is being adapted into a TV anime.

Details about the new production are currently scarce, although a new teaser visual (above) has been published that features Hachirou Kouga of the Kouga Clan and Hibiki Iga of the Iga Clan. The new TV anime with adapt the "Cherry Blossom Ninpo Chapter" of the series, which was originally published as a sequel novel by Masaki Yamada. The story picks up 10 years after the events of the previous anime.

Additionally, a "comicalize" manga adaptation of Masaki Yamada's Basilisk sequel novel will begin publication in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine starting with Volume 34 of this year, which will be published in Japan on July 24, 2017. The manga is written by Masaki Yamada and features artwork by Tatsuya Shihara based on the original characters by Masaki Segawa.

The original Basilisk - The Kouga Ninja Scrolls manga is based on The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, a 1958 novel by Futaro Yamada. An English language version of the manga is published by Kodansha. Basilisk was previously adapted into a TV anime in 2005 with direction by Fumitomo Kizaki and animation by Gonzo. This earlier adaptation is distributed in North America by Funimation, who describe the story as follows:

The heirs to the Kouga and Iga ninja clans, Gennosuke and Oboro, hoped the unsteady truce between their tribes would last—but fate denies the lovers, thrusting their people into war after centuries of peace. The terms are set on two scrolls. One bears a list of Kouga warriors. The other holds a list of those who fight for Iga. The names found on these scrolls can only be crossed out in blood.
