While no changes in the top 7 titles, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin V: Clash at Loum, the latest fifth chapter of the anime adaptation of original character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Gundam: The Origin manga inspired by the first Gundam TV series, ranked 8th and pulled in a solid 92,717,300 yen on 49,383 admissions at the box office from 36 theaters in its Japanese debut over the weekend of September 2-3.
In addition to becoming the weekend's top grossing debut film, its per theater average of 2,575,481 yen was the highest of all films currently playing, overwhelmingly besting Sekigahara, Despicable Me 3, and Wonder Woman, the top three films at the Japanese box office.
Gekitotsu Loum Kaisen/Clash at Loum is the first episode of the two-episode "Loum Arc," based on the manga's 13th and 14th tankobon volume focusing on the one of the most important early battles
in the One Year War. The second episode Tanjou, Akai Suisei/Rise of the Red Comet will get a limited
theatrical release of four weeks in 35 theaters across Japan on May 5, 2018.
