"In This Corner of the World" Dominates Japan's Blu-ray Sales Chart

The extended version based on the director's original storyboards is in the works

According to the latest Oricon sales report, the 9,800-yen special limited edition Blu-ray of the anime film adaptation of Fumiyo Kouno's award-winning manga Kono Sekai no Katasumi ni/In This Corner of the World, released on September 15, sold a very good 24,000 units in its first week, becoming the top-selling Blu-ray disc of the week in Japan.


The disc's 4,800-yen regular disc also sold 20,000 units and ranked 3rd in the weekly sales chart. The film beomes the second anime title that entries its two version discs in top 3 at the same time this year, following Makoto Shinkai's Kimi no Na wa./Your Name. in August, and the sixth anime tile in the history of the Oricon chart. 


The Sunao Katabuchi (Black Lagoon, Mai Mai Miracle)-directed film was released in Japan on November 12, 2016, and has attracted two million audience, earning over 2.6 billion yen so far. As

reported, thanks to the film's huge commercial and critical success, director Katabuchi has already

started working on its extended edition based on his original storyboards.
