"Metroid" Goes Metal on New "Dark Hunter" Album

The new prog rock tribute album is now available on Bandcamp.

Every awesome hero deserves an equally awesome soundtrack, and Metroid's Samus has had her fair share of cool tunes. To that end, guitarist Ro Panuganti is teaming up with Materia Collective to put a new twist on the sci-fi heroine's soundtrack.

The Dark Hunter is an officially licensed album, featuring six tunes from across three installments of Nintendo's Metroid series. The official trailer for the album lets you preview Metroid, Super Metroid, and Metroid Prime songs reimagined:

Panuganti has also released a video of his cover of "Ridley" from Super Metroid, which is featured on the full album:

Panuganti says creating the album marks the fulfillment of a long-time dream to create a solid album around one game and one sound. "You'll definitely hear influences of modern progressive artists like Periphery, TesseracT, Plini, as well as more '90s musicians like Pantera and Alice in Chains sneaking into the tunes; interestingly I mostly listened to pop and musicals while recording it!"

The Dark Hunter (Music from the Metroid Series) is now available on Bandcamp, iTunes, and Spotify.
