The thoroughly modern Benio is here in a new clip to show that she can drink with the best of them. This new short piece from Haikara-san ga Tooru (Here Comes Miss Modern) features Saori Hayami in the lead. Benio has just learned of her arranged marriage, and runs off with a childhood friend to drink her troubles away. It goes about as well as one might expect.
The clip is from the first half of the classic manga's two-film adaptation, directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Gundam Unicorn, Le Chevalier d'Eon). The movie is currently in theaters in Japan, and has apparently received the approval of manga creator Waki Yamato.
The story takes place in the 1920s, chronicling the unlikely romance between the strong-willed Benio and her arranged husband, a handsome soldier named Shinobu. While she initially dislikes him, the two end up falling in love.
The first film, subtitled Benio, Hana no Jyunanasai, opened in Japan last week. The follow-up, Tokyo Dai Roman, will be released next year.
