Yumeko Jabami and the rest of the unhinged cast of Kakegurui are returning for another round of mind-games, because a 2nd phase of the animated adaptation of the high stakes high school gambling manga written by Homura Kawamoto and illustrated by Toru Naomura has been announced.
The news was revealed at a special Kakegurui-themed event that was held on January 06, 2018, at the Shinjuku Bunka Center venue in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Although the release date for the next phase of the TV animation has not yet been revealed, a new key visual (above) depicting the cast of compulsive gamblers has been published.
The original Kakegurui manga is published in Square Enix's Monthly Gangan Joker shōnen manga magazine. An English language version of the original Kakegurui manga is also available from Yen Press under the title Kakegurui - Compulsive Gambler. The Kakegurui TV anime is directed by Yuichiro Hayashi and features animation by MAPPA, and the 1st season will be digitally distributed by Netflix beginning in 2018.
Netflix describes the story of Kakegurui as follows:
There is one absolute rule in gambling -- at the end of the day, there is a winner and a loser. The winner gains riches and prestige, while the loser is branded a failure and left with nothing. In the silence leading up to the moment that separates winners and losers, instincts are sharpened and desires reach the point of ecstasy. This is a harsh microcosm of life in a capitalist society. Why are people captivated by a world filled with risk? What lies beyond the madness? As the class system of modern society crumbles, an unprecedented adrenaline-pumping anime sweeps the world.
