Kumamoto Prefecture Awards "One Piece" Author Eiichiro Oda with Citizen's Honor Prize

"ONE PIECE Kumamoto Reconstruction Project" has helped rebuild after the devastating 2016 earthquake

 

In recognition of the manga author's phenomenal, worldwide success and also his contributions to the "ONE PIECE Kumamoto Reconstruction Project", the prefecture of Kumamoto has awarded the Kumamoto Prefecture Citizen's Honor Prize to One Piece creator and Kumamoto resident, Eiichiro Oda.

 

The "ONE PIECE Kumamoto Reconstruction Project" has helped with the recovery efforts since the prefecture was struck by a series of powerful earthquakes in April of 2016, while One Piece has sold over 430 million copies in 42 countries all around the world.

 

The Kumamoto Prefecture Citizen's Honor Prize will be presented to Oda at a special ceremony held in Kumamoto Prefectural government headquarters on April 15, 2018. Weekly Shōnen Jump editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano will attend the ceremony.
