The main cast and a new teaser visual (above) have been revealed for The Rising of the Shield Hero (known in Japan as Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari), an upcoming TV anime based on the fantasy light novel series written by Aneko Yusagi and illustrated by Minami Seira about an awkward otaku who is summoned to an alternate world in order to fill the role of a legendary hero.
The main cast for The Rising of the Shield Hero includes:
Kaito Ishikawa as Naofumi Iwatani, the Hero of the Shield.
Asami Seto as Raphtalia, a slave girl.
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Ren Amaki, the Hero of the Sword.
Makoto Takahashi as Motoyasu Kitamura, the Hero of the Spear.
And Yoshitaka Yamaya as Itsuki Kawasumi, the Hero of the Bow.
The original The Rising of the Shield Hero novels are published in Japan by Media Factory under their MF Bunko imprint, and English language versions are also available from One Peace Books, who describe the story as follows:
Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction. As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!
The Rising of the Shield Hero TV anime is directed by Takao Abo and features animation by Kinema Citrus. Episode 1 of the series will have its worldwide premiere along with special guests at this year's Crunchyroll Expo, which runs from September 01 - 03, 2018, at the San Jose McEnry Convention Center in San Jose, California, USA.
