  • Mechanically sound design with potentially attainable programming
    This mecha anime is of the style I prefer. Shows depicting advanced machinery that could exist with our current level of engineering disciplines are what I gravitate toward. Although highly stylized with impractical armor for combat operations, the design seemed mechanically feasible and the software seems within reach of our current robotics programmers.

  • About average; decent
    Despite watching Code Geass, still not super big on shows about mechs- but decided to give this show a try. Yeah, the MC wasnt a person I could rally behind; even worse was the engineer of the mech. The somber captain was the most interesting character to me; the show was pretty decent. I was hoping that the MC would reach a plateau where he would have Argevollen doing some amazing stuff, but it ...

    Great Plot and supporting characters
    Argevollen is a little stereotypical like most shows. But does have a much stronger plot than the vast majority of shows I've seen in last couple years. There is strong character development, and sense of moral justice as you continue through the series. Good combat scenes and realistic setting even if we don't like that sometimes.

  • More psycological than violent
    I mainly started watching it because I hadn't seen a mecha in forever, but I kept watching it because it turned out to be a lot deeper than just a mecha.

    While it wasn't the most exciting, thrilling anime I've seen, it had an interesting perspective. You start the series in the middle of a war, and while there are plenty of things to focus on and characters to like and dislike, I feel like the ...

    Give a mecha a chance!
    So basically there are several complaints made by most reviewers:

    * The story is predictable
    * The characters don't have fantastic depth
    * The plot follows a common archetype for this variety of anime
    * Convenient plots twists

    That's most of the bad summarized but you have yet to hear about the anime itself!

    The plot centers around a group of soldiers in a war of attrition with a ...

    I enjoyed it!! Even the second time around.
    This is the second time viewing this. I'll admit the plot is a bit thin and cliche.
    Enjoyed the mechs as well as the personal interactions that verge on dumb.
    History shows that the military can be that stupid
    Mind numbing entertainment at its best!!!

  • An Intense, Adult View of War
    Beautifully plotted and elegantly drawn, this grim fable really brings home the truth that war is utterly pointless. The characters are so intensely felt and their inner dilemmas and suffering are so real that it's often painful to watch. The heartless cynicism of the modern military-industrial complex is shown in all its ugliness. A real anime masterpiece.

    MEh - not bad, but nothing new here
    Animation - modern standard, clean but no flair or groundbreaking style.
    Characters - half of them have one distinguishing trait. The other half are filler.
    Soundtrack - top side of average.
    Story - Largely ripped off.

    Well, this show started off as your run of the mill Mecha anime. It was almost terrifying how Clichéd the first couple of episodes were. Then, an interesting ...

  • Generic, cliche, unnderwhelming. Background noise for when you're cleaning
    I'd give this show 2.5 stars out of five if possible. It's not terrible so I'll bump it to three, but it doesn't really deserve that even.

    The Good
    - Decent animation. The traditional anime style and the CGI mechs don't really look like they belong to the same show, but Argevollen isn't the first to do this, so it's forgivable. Everything is serviceable. You won't remember anything as ...

  • Not Deep, Plain, and maybe even Cliche
    The characters are drawn well, the robots are well made, and detail of human expressions and human bodies are depicted well, too. Nevertheless, this does not change the plain plot. There is a war going on, but the politics, resources issue, economic factors, etc. are barely mentioned. It had made me wonder what the war is for. Except for a few characters, whose background is developed but not in ...
