  • Heart-Warming and Exciting!
This anime is a pure fun watch, and the story itself is enjoyable. It has it's very funny and home-type moments, then it also has it's serious moments. If you don't have much anime to watch, I highly suggest this as I think it's one of the best for the season.

  • A Rather Suprisingly Entertaining Series Though A Bit Rushed
Wasn't sure what to expect of this one, though it does seem rather rushed at the beginning, he is a student, touches the sub, and it activates, and the next thing we know he is at battle with a crew of his classmates. Something is missing, which seeing as Seven Sea (according to amazon) is going to release the Manga starting July 1 2014, might be able to find out what led up to that.

    My initial thoughts...
My first impressions were good; the naval combat, while sci-fi in nature, looks rather grounded and believable. It took a moment for me to realize the characters were cel-shade CG, they are well enough rendered. I will admit after watching for a bit you will noticed the chinks in the 3D models. Sadly lackluster rendering stands out a bit too obviously in the supporting cast. The ships themselves ...

    This anime needs more love
Battleships with insane weapons, girls with insane powers that control them, incredible tactics and strategies, plus Iona acting out the movements of the submarine, what more could you want from this show? Oh wait, the fact that it can actually make you tear up too.
I've watched every episode, and at first, I thought it was "meh". But after a couple more episodes, this show has really hooked me ...

    Amazing all around series
Going into this anime, I expected naval warfare to be the most excruciating/ boring show yet. Well... I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did the first episode successfully create a compelling story, each episode was better than the one before. Here are my main thoughts

Story: Naval warfare for the most part with intriguing side stories or character revelations on land. The anime clearly shows ...

Arpeggio of Blue Steel Makes war over the seas not boring as you think

    Oh Mai Gawd Tak-tikz!
So there are a bunch of hyper advanced weapons systems (Fleet of Fog) that come straight from a WWII naval encyclopedia. These weapons systems are the ships themselves but have grown human bodies (Mental Models). One such weapons system (Iona, a submarine, I-401) is commanded by a human after sitting around dormant for years.

Animation let down, but story potential?
If I wanted to "know of" a good story I'd be reading books. The CG animation, in my opinion, detracts enough from this anime to warrant a 2/5 just by itself. Everything is stiff, movements are awkward, and connected objects seem...disjoint.

Other than that, the initial idea was pretty interesting. I guess it's another take on some kind of alien invasion, but in this case... there are naval ...
