    Mecha Pilots Sign Up Here
Do you really really really really want to be a mecha pilot? If an alien race dropped a mecha nearby and asked you to pilot it, would you? Or would you wait till you heard the catch? Not that it matters much since they tricked you into coming by saying you were signing up to beta test a video game, then immediately dumped you into combat with another mecha. Fight or die? Is that a fair question? ...

Opening Theme Alone Gets Three Stars
Seriously, this is the most beautiful opening theme I've heard in years, and maybe ever.

The series pretty well jumps right in, so you don't spend a lot of time getting to know the characters - but you'll get to know each of them very well over the course of the series.

There is giant robot combat, but it's not the sole focus of the story, which is really about the 15 teenage pilots. Some ...

    Evangelion with 15 Shinjis
This anime has many features in common with Evangelion. It isn't super action packed, so don't expect Gundam type combat. The combat is more reserved, and quite similar to the original Evangelion series. The 15 main characters are also very much like Shinji, in that none of them want to be there, they are whiny, and emotionally unstable. Overall the anime is quite enjoyable, especially if you like ...

A Deconstruction of the Giant Robot Genre
Bokurano is like a series of small, personal stories swirling in an otherworldly plot that is beyond our capabilities.

*If you're looking for plot-focused anime, this may not be for you. It is more focused on its characters and how they react to the plot.
*If you're looking for lovable characters, some are, but many are hard to like. Like a small sample of the world population, you won't like ...

Possibly the most depressing anime out there
There are mecha in Bokurano, but Bokurano is not a mecha anime. If you're looking for an action show, skip this.

It's rare for fictional things affect me much emotionally, but this anime made me sick to my stomach. If I could unwatch Bokurano, I would. I'm not a fan of tragedies in general, but this takes it to a whole new level. Expect nothing but despair from start to finish. The message is ...

A heart-wrenching classic not to miss
Bokurano is one of the anime that inspired me to start watching the medium frequently. Sure, the graphics aren't great (even for 2007 standards), but that's not what Bokurano is about. It's about the gripping tales of these dozen or so children who unintentionally sign themselves up for a battle they didn't know they had to face. The characters are genuine, the direction is superb, and most of ...

Very different and emotional mecha/human anime
I began wondering what the story was, since the presentation was about children playing a "game" and piloting a huge black robot against others. The main story became dark and emotional quickly, but the developing internal stories of each "pilot" and family was the motivation to move on. There are parts that were excellently told, and brought tears to my eyes, yet some were too harsh and even ...

  • I'm not someone who writes reviews
I don't write reviews so don't expect anything crazy this is going to be from the perspective of someone who mostly watches dark anime and shonen's. I Really enjoyed this for what it was, yeah it had plot-holes but it was still very much enjoyable. I've read that the manga is better but this is still enjoyable. I don't care much for MECHAS or CGI but they weren't too obnoxious and i didn't mind it ...

  • Sup everybody, itcha boi. Giant Mecha.
I originally watched subs of this back around 2009 or so. They were a little different from these subs, for instance Koyemshi was translated to Dungbeetle instead of keeping his name untranslated. But I would say these subs give an over-all better idea of what is happening around them. Also I didn't know it at the time but certain parts of the show were cut out on the version I saw in 2009. This ...

  • An overlooked gem of a show
Bokurano is a show that at the time of its initial release was kinda overshadowed by its contemporaries such as Gurren Lagann, Darker Than Black, and Lucky Star, all of which started airing at the same time. And while I won't claim that Bokurano is better than those shows, I will claim that it could probably go toe to toe with them in a fair comparison.

Bokurano is ultimately one of those ...
