In Shinto, the goddess Izanami was the first female and the mother of almost everything. She died giving birth, and became the living-dead Goddess of the Dead. She's one of the only five gods who are called "okami", "great god". So, yeah!

@supasoggyrolle, go back and re-watch that scene and pause it. She stabbed him through his right shoulder, not his throat. At 11:29 when the ice breaks, you can see her pull the sword from his shoulder.

I love how Ana stabs Sasuke right in the throat, and later, he has a shoulder wound with a sling. Details like that are what's keeping this good anime from being great.
