My first exposure to Leji's work was Harlock Saga/Maetel Legend dual pack that was released on dvd years ago. From there I have watched pretty much everything of his I could find. Captain Harlock is a great show filled with ridiculous space ships and wonderfully odd crew. The only real down side like any classic, is that it was made before some of us were born .. The art style and quality might not be up to par for people used to modern computer aided graphics. Back when this was made, panning the camera over a still image to give the illusion of motion was considered cutting edge (I cant remember if it was done for this series or Space Battleship Yamato). Please do not let this deter you, you will be missing out on a wonderful work..

As some one else said. Access to this was one of the main reasons I shell out for crunchyroll.

Ok, I am going to be honest here.

I first started seeing Harlock on a TV station when I was on holiday in Quebec. It changed my life.

This is the Anime that got me hooked, hell I couldn't even understand the subtitles cause they were in french.

Granted, the animation is kinda choppy. (but we ARE talking about '78 here)

But this is Classic Anime at its best (first in North America???), and if you are a true fan, you will enjoy it. Otherwise watch it for the camp value... BUT WATCH IT!

(FYI the fact Crunchyroll had this is the reason why I became a member.)

Captain Harlock is one of those series that can never grow old. Sure the animation isn't all sparkle sparkle like today's but the storyline and characters out shine that aspect and delivers an excellent series.

The story follows Captain Harlock, a Space Pirate who lives in the year 2977. The world has become so lazy that no one is bothered to explore and instead they entertain themselves. After a meteor crashes on Earth, Professor Daiba and his son start to dig around, trying to figure out what it is. Because of this, the Professor is shot and killed by a mysterious cloaked wom
