    Dallos: The Oldie Anime
Dallos is a clear and cut "oldie" anime.

All that means is that the animation is old tech, like 80s old, the story is super mature, and a ton of ideas and perspectives are going to be thrown at you. Whether you enjoy it or not the creators don't care and didn't care back then. Dallos was a daring art project for the purpose of artistic expression, not money-making.

    Story points: ...

  • The very first "OVA", a must-watch for those interested in anime's history
I'm not an anime historian by any means so I apologize for any inaccuracies that may exist in this review.

I consider myself a fan of anime as a medium and try to make a point of sampling shows and movies from every decade. So naturally I had to check out the very first OVA. 80s anime is often very closely linked with OVAs in the minds of fans, and I feel like there's another association ...

    Dallos is too short.
Dallos had the potential to be an amazing, classic 1980s mecha-anime but was simply too short! The four episodes were the introduction to a potential 300 episode anime, with clear hints of Star Wars and a great good-evil conflict. In addition, the show kept hinting on a bigger purpose for "Dallos" and would urge the audience on a greater outcome of Monopolis. WHY? Why did they have to stop this ...

    Dallos Hasn't Aged Well
Dallos suffers from the unfortunate side-effect of being released thirty years ago by tackling a story that has been done many times since, and in much better ways. While the concept of a battle, where the two sides are both arguably good-and-evil is a strong one, it is simply very inferior to many of the attempts in the last thirty years. Even for a mid-80s anime, Dallos also doesn't look ...

    Plot holes, inconsistences
This anime really tries hard to play up the conflict between earth and monopolis, but there are several ways in which this falls flat only to end up feeling like the bickering of small children. There are even some setups that hint that the conflict might be more personal rather than a true fight for independence but they never pay off.
