I like my anime happy and carefree. Seems dark and depressing is fairly popular in Japan though.

Heck I saw a video on Youtube from Food Wars (which is supposed to be comedy) and Erina's father is being his usual dick self, and someone commented "I didn't know cooking could be so dark and intense". I replied "Anime can make brushing your teeth seem dark and intense"
