. . . . . . . if you don't like shows like that, why do you watch them? There are tons of anime without those cliches.

also, Kamigami no Asobi hits more than half of those points, just saying.

While watching the latest preview for Juuni Taisen (Zodiac War), one of the scenes reminded me of the "blades beat bullets" trope that is so common in anime.

I'm still waiting to watch Re:Creators after it wraps up, but given that it apparently one of the elements is how things work in fiction clashing with how they work in the "real world", I'm hoping it will subvert this trope, but given the main antagonist appears to use blades, I'm betting I'll be disappointed on that front.

If only we had a scene like that in an anime.

I was working in a cinema when that premiered, and for the many months it ran there. That scene rarely failed to illicit a laugh from the audience. Classic!

An unlikely team is formed for an impossible mission. There's the inexperienced one. The cheerful one. The jaded one. The mysterious one. The comic relief one. Etc., etc. They struggle with their pasts & to learn to trust & rely on each other. After facing seeming insurmountable odds & through shared hardships, the plucky misfits become a formidable team, growing into friends and eventually viewing their companions as family. They now fight just as fiercely to protect each other as they do to complete their mission. For some of them, there is even the hint of blossoming love...We've watched these characters grow and have come to feel a fondness & kinship with them. We're invested in them & their journey. We share their triumphs and their heartaches.

Mid-way through, they realize they're the bad guys, embrace it, and keep going.

I'm glad I am not the only one to think of that scene.

Yeah, but unfortunately most of the time in anime the hero is the sword user. And I must have laughed for a minute after that. I nearly choked on my popcorn too. :)

The scene seems to have inspired Disney. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru-92YnNQUA
