Germany doesn't need to pay anything more than it already has for the past 60-ish years. Germany has been a major influence of the growing economy of a lot of European countries, and the EU has helped/boosted the economy of many of the less wealthy nations. Poland is going through a right-wing(to the extreme in some parts) phase in their politics as a response to the terrorist threats posed by ISIS etc. That is the major reason for why the populist government refuses to let in refugees. The problem with this is that the EU has a migrant crisis going on, there are simply too many refugees seeking asylum in Europe, and one of the ways to deal with that is to resettle them across EU countries, giving a quota to each so that everyone contributes and no one nation is left with the entire burden.

The EU can't kick out a member state because there is no defined process for it. Poland could be chastised, though, if they do not adhere to EU regulations. Poland could choose to leave the EU as a protest, but that would not be wise, as no doubt the EU would make an example of them, as they now do with the UK.

And what did being an American have anything to do with this? Is it that "Germany is evil hurr durr" stuff?

I assume it's 'cause we cleaned Germany's clock back in WWII.

Except that was actually the Soviet Union, not us, but who cares. Germany lost, we won, we get to gloat.

I actually can't gloat, because I kind of feel bad for Germany at this point. The only lesson the country seems to have learned from WWII is that fascism was bad, so they need a strong central government to suppress objectionable elements - especially questionable religions and political groups - in society and prevent the German people, who are all a bunch of racist nationalists, from electing a repressive government that slaughters minority ethno-religious groups and political dissidents again. It's kind of like watching an alcoholic try to cure themselves by drinking beer instead of something with higher alcohol content.

But hey, at least they aren't gassing people anymore.

I think you slipped a comment through another alternate reality here, 'cause I have no idea what the hell you're on about. The far right nationalistic wave is all over Europe, not just in Germany. Germany has come a long long way from being a duped state in 1930-40's to being a respected nation in European politics, even in world politics. Suppressing them how exactly? Through voting and counter argument? There are many opposing political groups in Germany and they all can be heard - no one is being suppressed.

Why can't we all just move on from the Second World War? Let's not forget about when American soldiers shot German POWs; people who probably didn't give a shit about the Nazi ideology to begin with, and were drafted into military service.

In war, there's no right or wrong in terms of who's ideology is right. Napoleon said history is written by the victor. Democracy/Socialism won, so Fascism is extinct and everyone talks about how evil it was. If Fascism won, the history books would write about how the USA authorized the imprisonment of 500,000+ Japanese people just because they were Japanese, and how corrupt and evil Democracy/Socialism is. (Fun Fact: FDR signed the executive order to place the Japanese into camps, yet Democrats idolize him.)

Yet people can't just chill tf out about wars our grandfathers fought in. Does no one understand the phrase "once enemies, now friends."?

the best thing we can all do now is try to be more cordial in diplomacy, and move on from petty demands of money from other nations. That would only make things worse.
