Neither. I can generally open a book to a place a little before where I am up to and skim read the few pages I need to find the exact spot. I tried using bookmarks when I was younger but they kept falling out.

Wish I could finish a book in 4-6 hours. But when you finish a book that fast, are you getting anything out of it?

Sure. I will retain pretty much everything. At that speed I have a 98% retention rate. That is the 6 hours rate. I can go faster and finish a paperback in about 4 hours, but then retention will drop to perhaps 90%. I will miss a lot more. I will also generally end up with a pretty serious headache as well.

Basically I do not read a book. I watch it. When I read a word, I do not read a word. I see it. So I do not read the word tree, I visualize a tree. An Oak Tree to be specific. Which I do not understand why that is since they are not native to where I grew up. I only assume that it was the default tree in early picturebooks I read. Or perhaps saw on TV. But I came to associate tree with Oak tree. In any event, that is what I see.

Apply that to whole paragraphs and I do not read words and try to comprehend them. I am simply rolling my eyes over the words and watching a movie unfold. Which is why I can finish a book that quickly. I am not reading it so much as watching it.

I use a dollar bill. Physical damage on things I own (stickers, scratches, etc) is one of the things I hate most in this world.

I'm a bookmark hound, I buy them sometimes just because I like them, tend to run through them about the same. I don't like destroying books, they are almost sacred to me. I have books I've own for a decade and they still look brand new and never read and this is a soft cover not hardback.

I memorise page numbers. Like right now I'm reading T.E.D. Klein's The Ceremonies and I'm on page 257.

No bookmark required.

Bookmark. I don't like damaging my books. I won't even set cups anywhere near them. I'm a freak about trying to keep my stuff "perfect"

Same. I don't think I've owned an actual bookmark since I was in grade school.

None of the above?

Few books are long enough that I cannot finish them in a single sitting. In general I can finish a book in 4-6 hours. So there is no real need to put it down.

If I ever need to, I simply close the book and put it down. I know where I left off, so going back to that page only takes a few seconds if that. That is, after all, one of the great pleasures of reading. To be able to flip through the pages.

So I guess I am a third type?

I'd like to know how you sit still for more then a couple of hours. If I tried sitting still for more then 2 hours max I'd cramp up, the human body or at least my body isn't made for such laziness.
