Ever since the gaming magazines I used to read religiously as a boy all folded, I've been a close follower of the games media website Destructoid. I thought they had a good format and community but I decided to stop following them after their appallingly bad coverage of the Alex Mauer debacle a few months back (it didn't help that most of my favourite writers there had all left) but this left me at an impasse. I didn't really have anywhere else to go from there and all the other online publications that I looked at also came with a fair bit of baggage, to say the least. So I thought I would come here to get some recommendations. Where do you guys go for game coverage? I need a site that's reliable, easy to navigate and well written.

For games in general, I watch The Electric Playground's daily rundown. For years, they were on TV in Canada, but now they're on Youtube, Facebook, and their own website ( epn.tv ).

For RPG specifically I go to RPGFan ( rpgfan.com )

Basically this
If something's worth people talking about, it's worth my attention
If something's good or interesting, people will talk about and then I can investigate myself.

Polygon is probably my main go to for a standard gaming site. I also tend to keep tabs on Destructoid. I don't really like them much at all but they do frequently do reviews of smaller games I may not have heard of so they're good for that if nothing else.

Gamasutra has some really interesting design and behind the scenes stuff but it's not really something I keep a super close eye on.

There are a few Youtubers/streamers I follow as well but I don't really go to them for gaming news, more for opinions and the occasional recommendation.

Twitter also just allows for a pretty straight line to developers. If there's a developer/publisher I like I'll just follow them on Twitter and get updates straight from them.

I am still old school and stick with magazines. I read GamesMaster, Neo Mag and MYM Mag.

Zero punctuation's JRPG reviews are halarious.

Polygon's rating system is pretty quality, avg games get a 5-6, good 7-8 and excellent 9-10. Granted they are annoying sometimes in their opinion articles (ex: they took liberties with 1-2 lines in the Persona 5 translation and the game is ruined for me!). However their long form games journalism-y articles are always excellent.

RPGfan writes tremendous reviews but I don't really pay attn to the number score.

Kotaku is decent and has some fun posts and breaks news occasionally.

Game Informer magazine is literally the only thing that gamestop does well. Its amazing they haven't ruined it yet.

Retro Gamer (British mag) is a fun read.

Nichegamer and various youtubers got tired of the scumbags at the more mainstream sites like Polygon, Kotaku, IGN, and so forth

I go straight to Youtube.

Watch at least a few vids on the game I'm looking for to get some different opinions. Usually the reviewers are citing some other sources for their arguments and such, so you get some outside info. But usually I'm just looking what's the vibe around the game.

But yeah, definitely Youtube.
