Personally, I like the forum style of doing things.

Half paying attention to a conversation while doing something else isn't my style and jumping into a conversation just feels awkward.

With a forum, I can browse conversations, read them at my own pace, and add what I want. Plus, I prefer thought out responses. Not overbearing walls of text, but stuff with some meat, ya know? And not the quick, short sentences of a discord chatroom.

Plus it's easier to get responses (or a better way). Start a post and people talk about it. Or post a reply and someone will respond if they want.

The questbook and the message are similar.

Forums also work better for timezones; I have two or three people on here that I chat with somewhat regularly (maybe?) who are half-way around the world; discord wouldn't really work for that.

And if you ever want to talk, I'm here, chilling. I'll probably be busy with college, but I'm here.

I agree with this, a lot of benefits to Crunchy forums over other platforms, so its a little disappointing to see it lose popularity especially when Crunchyroll is more popular than it has ever been!

I think it's lively enough
Just not 100% all the time, which would defeat the purpose, I think

And see what I did there?
I waited to make the point, thus strengthening my original point
I AM THE SMARTEREST

It's also interesting because I really only use CR for the forums. I don't watch as much anime in general and I have a group I watch stuff with on Fridays. Past that, I'm just here for the memes, people, and who knows what conversations

I simply spam the forums a bit, to try and make them a little bit more lively.

not everyone has ran to discord, some have gone back to school, however we got fires, earthquakes and hurricanes. life is what matters, and when life happens that's more important to a lot of people than bothering to come online. once the chaos settles more will return. just to note, it's sort of vacant in discord at the moment as well.

I agree with what other people have already said. A lot of people have moved to Discord. I prefer Crunchyroll over Discord personally, but that's probably because I'm not interested in having lengthy conversations with people I don't care about on the internet. I'd rather just reply to thread topics I find interesting and maybe respond to other people's comments once or twice. I guess a lot of people actually prefer more conversation though.

Same here.

As an ancient of CR, I got to say it has more to do with the shifting member base. Back in its infancy, CR functioned quite differently and so did its forums. People, actual members of the site, used to upload the majority of the videos here. There was no such thing as simulcasts and license shenanigans. Heck you could even get points for uploading videos in those days. While it functioned like any other streaming site, the forums were quite the primary focus because people just get together to talk about anything and everything. Watching streams here felt like a secondary hobby. The majority of activities happened in the forums and all sorts of topics were popping up. They weren't spam or one-trick pony troll/laughs threads either. There were a ton of ongoing conversations day in and day out. A good portion of it came from talking about the latest uploads and anything anime/manga related but there was still a sizeable "all other subjects" content.

But since CR begun to go big and corporate, it became less of a "feel at home" community. CR was founded by a group of UC Berkley students whose primary interest was to create a community where people can just get together and have a great time and a place to just talk with everyone about anything. That's what made the forum atmosphere so different than what it is now.

I'll guess Discord as well, the forums aren't nearly as active compared to when I joined about 7-8 months ago and I see more people advertising their Discord servers on Chit Chat.
