I knew game reviewers were out of touch with gamers but WOW. This guy really takes the cake.

Dean is the lead video games writer for VentureBeat, and has been writing and reviewing video games for almost two decades now (18 years to be exact).

Wow... that was painful couldnt get past two minutes. I guess the bar for video game reviewers was really low two decades ago.

Hes still a video game reviewer... The bar hasn't risen. This dude couldn't survive the first level of mario Bro's.

I've seen machine learning better than this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv6UVOQ0F44

There's a hilarious webm of a sidebyside comparison of the guy playing and a pigeon using a wooden block as a platform to reach food.
The pigeon beat him by about thirty seconds.

Have you seen the article with some idiot saying 'gamers should stop fetishizing skill' because of the backlash to that video?
The absolute state of "gaming journalism".

Edit: Found the pigeon video

Is a pidgeon more intelligent than a game journalist? The answer will not surprise you.

Man how the hell does someone so bad become a game journalist? They should fire him then hire the pidgeon. It would be cheaper and everyone would love to watch a game playing bird.

If anyone actually bothered to read the description on the first YouTube video, it states that Dean 'doesn't really play platformers or sidescrolling action games because he's bad at them'. Apparently he was the only one of the team in Germany at the time of Gamescom so he agreed to try out the Cuphead game for GamesBeat, with obviously now horrible results. It goes on to further explain that the video was originally posted as a joke, not as an actual review of the game, but that that wasn't explained well in the video description when it was first posted. They didn't anticipate the overwhelmingly negative response against Dean that they got from the posting of the video, so have now explained all of that and why they posted the video in their description now, and have even provided a couple of links to videos of video games that he has played well. Also, this is only the second time in his career that something like this has happened. I'd say that that's a pretty good track record.

So, just because he's bad at this particular game, very bad, doesn't mean that he's bad at video games in general, so just lay off of the guy. All of us who do play video games are good at one type of game, but bad at another, so it's not like any of us are experts at all types of video games either. He's just human like we are.

I don't understand why just anybody can become a games journalist. Newspapers and magazines and even online publications don't go up to the average John Q. Citizen on the street and ask them "Hey kid, wanna be a journalist?" There ought to be some stricter qualifications for gaming journalism. Nothing to the level of a degree, but if you're interviewing someone for a job reviewing video games for a professional publication, you should ask them as to what experience they have on different platforms, different genres, etc.

Well on the optimistic side, at least maybe this game will get more recognition.

Reminds me of Gonintendo's My Parents Play series (specifically RMC's dad):

Guys, no one gets 100 on their first test, and he doesn't use cheat code. And your brain needs at least a day with sleep to make the connections needed to respond to extraterrestrial technology. In the society, you get put up to do work not because you like it, because you get paid. You don't get paid for effort, think of Gai sensei and how he became a NINJA.

Oh no, a games reviewer is bad at a particular game. Clearly a reviewer must be good at all games for their opinion to qualify, amirite?
