I'd recomend Trinity Blood to anyone but with one huge warning the creator sadly died before he finished. I believe others completeled the work but it was never made into anime. At least I don't remeber a decent ending to the show it was pretty open ended with many questions unanswered. But the ride before the not good ending was worth it.

Seems CR is adding more and more for US and canada there are premium payers in UK you know! having to watch them elsewhere is becoming annoying....

Just a tiny correction they had it. It was clearance priced last year or the year before. All that remains that they did is 3 wallpapers and a few new/used copies on ebay. They could still own the license and just not be doing anything with it though. :)

Funimation being the biggest North American licensee plays a bit part. Anything from Funimation will be US Canada at least any other regions outside of that are just a bonus to CR.
Just like all catalogue titles CR have a network of distributors in North America who share titles with them. Where as outside of the US it's next to non existent. UK has anime limited for a couple of titles. Manga UK doesn't stream it's titles that I'm aware of so if they released it they have final call and if they say no it's a no.
Then it's does the distributor have there own streaming service/have partnerships with other sites eg animaxtv.
Until the funimation X Crunchyroll partnership the US had a fractured market. Some you had to watch on CR and others on Funimation. This partnership has nearly ended that. Only problem is now anime strike has fractured it yet again lol.

We inherit the regions from Funimation or other US publishers. If any region is not included in their original contract, we cannot offer the title in that region. It is not like we are doing specific licensing for North America or cutting out regions on our behalf.

Thanks, I was going by the Anime News Network entry ... I didn't exactly spend a lot of time looking for what anime was available when I was in Newcastle in February.

They could still own the license and just not be doing anything with it though.

Japanese physical licenses pay royalties for content on production, not on sale, so sometimes a company that still has license to a title won't re-issue a title when it sells out because of the financial risk ... but it is certainly from long enough ago for a license to have lapsed.

Funimation being the biggest North American licensee plays a bit part. Anything from Funimation will be US Canada at least any other regions outside of that are just a bonus to CR.

Also, the rights to all of these old Funimation catalog titles were added a year ago ... these announcements are just telling us which materials have been delivered to turn those rights into reality.

Exactly. If Manga UK would strike a deal with Crunchyroll to stream their series, the UK would get a big increase in titles on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll would obviously be open to it ... it's MangaUK preventing that from happening.

I recommend Kurau Phantom Memory to anyone who likes science fiction, though its not anywhere near as realistic as a "hard SF" show like Planetes. Good writing and an interesting setting, story and characters.

That explains a few things... I remember watching Trinity Blood years ago, and thought it was pretty awesome. It's still on my favorite list and hoped a second part would come out to help answer some remaining questions. Didn't know the creator had passed away though, that's unfortunate/sad. Glad it's made to CR for more people to enjoy it!!

Ive gotta say this - Trinity Blood is one of the most epic anime EVER. It's dark and tragic at times too. But more tragic is that I pay same as in US yet for UK we don't get this anime.

Is there a clear disclaimer on the site about how licensing shows works?

Without fail, people criticize releases not being in their region and blame Crunchyroll. Multiple posters then explain licensing.

I also looked through several Forums at the stickies and didn't see anything explaining licensing. It wasn't a deep dive, but maybe this information could be more conspicuous?

For instance, expansion announcements could include links to a page?

EDIT: And to maximize influence -- if that's desired -- maybe include information on which big companies would need to partner with Crunchyroll in various countries/territories so fans in that part of the world might reach out ...
