Sounds like a good way to get viruses.

I buy stuff too. It doesn't take some special effort to look up something I want. Much better than relying on some corporate machine to tell me what I might be interested in, all while tossing any concept of privacy into the garbage.

How will that give him a virus? I can see someone getting scammed by it but a virus?.

Also dont use Internet Explorer unless you are a purveyor of viruses.

See, their demographic is fucking morons. But if you legitimately think third-party cookies are a violation of your privacy rights, and you turn them off, you're literally impossible to distinguish from some dumbass who heard they were a kind of virus and was too stupid to know any better.

That would be great if the only ads that gave you viruses were the obvious "click on the monkey's ass to win an iphone". Many you don't even need to click on the ad itself, just be on the website without an ad blocker.

Best thing to do is install an adblocker and never look back. I have no idea why someone in 2017 would not have an adblocker.

I buy non fiction too. Never had to click advertisements to find them. Idk why you would.

Because they're bad for you. If you give no information about yourself to the ad networks, they can't target any reputable ads toward you. You will never see ads from a big, honest, well-established company that can't run virus-laden ads or they would get the living fuck sued out of them.

Instead, you will see ads from the smallest, stupidest, and shadiest companies on the planet. The ones who don't intend to be in business long enough for a class action lawsuit to get filed, and their domain registration is private, and their address is fake, and nobody answers that phone number. Next year, they'll be doing business under a different name from a different state.

Why wouldn't they try to give you malware? You can get five or ten bucks for putting a spambot on somebody's machine - the only problem is how to get as many out there as possible before the ad gets reported and banned from the network. (Also legal things, but see previous paragraph.) You don't target those ads. Targeting inherently shows your ad to fewer people, so you can zero in on the ones who might buy. But if you don't care whether they buy...

Actually I won't see any, ever. Unless I turn off my adblocker, which I rarely do.

While Facebook is indeed a piece of shit this is due to the automatic algorithms. Hell they probably have an incest and devil worship category too along with a communist selection.

You should be more upset targeted ads exist in the first place.

Yeah, because it's so much better when more of the ads you see are for stuff you don't want and would never want. Guys really should be seeing a lot more tampon ads.

Their idea of targeted ads is still horrible! I have yet to see targeted anime advertising yet.

I have... that and the newest RPGS, and adds for swords, armor.

Ugh... it seems you posted a link to an article you haven't read. I would strongly encourage you to actually read the entire article. The advertising to "Jew Haters" was due to the automated system creating a "Jew Hater" category because enough people posted it as their profession, interest ect. Once this was brought to their attention it was quickly taken down. So in this case Facebook isn't really to blame as you can take a single topic and make 1000 alternate sayings/phrases/spellings that would keep whatever your topic is in the algorithm. Trying to stop all phrases/words that people would find offensive nothing short of a miracle. As a company they probably have a word/phrase index that the system blocks and they just add categories as they go.

NO! don't point out the obvious !!

And the sites you visit, which presumably have content you like, will get less ad revenue on that content.

Eventually, they will stop producing that and focus on content that pays the bills.

But hey - not your problem, right?

I can't think of a single site I visit that deserves ad money from me. So yeah, not my problem.
Maybe CR if they fixed their servers, but that isn't going to happen any time soon considering they've been fucky for years. Even then I'd just pay for premium again rather than disable ublock.

I sort of expect to hear stupid and irritating things regarding advertisers and major websites now (cough cough YouTube).

Ad money doesn't come from you, dumbass. The advertisers pay it.

And if the site you're visiting doesn't deserve any money, stop visiting it. When literally every Gawker Media site turned into the all-singing, all-dancing ad network of pointless bullshit, I stopped going to any of them and I haven't missed it one bit. Gizmodo, Kotaku, and Lifehacker are just not that important to me. There are other, less-shitty sites that provide comparable content without the endless assault of retarded garbage.

To this day I don’t understand the logic behind ads. Honestly, has anybody ever been led to purchasing a product/service, just because of an ad they saw? 99% of ppl just see them as invasive & a nuisance. Maybe I’m overestimating human intelligence tho.

Then they should have no problem with people using adblockers or other fun extensions. They still get their money, right?

Nah. I'll just use Ublock instead.
