I haven't watched a lot of anime this year and only chose ones that I knew I'd probably enjoy but if there was one where I'm disappointed in and dropped it's 'In Another World with My Smartphone'. I only saw 3-4 episodes before I dropped so this little 'essay' might be going too far.

There were only a few shows that I had expectations for, and they tended to meet (HeroAca) or exceed them (Made in Abyss.) The ones I tried blindly mostly surprised me (Centaur's Life) or quickly showed they weren't for me (Girlfriend is a Gal.)

The disappointments were shows that showed early promise and then tanked or fizzled out.

Tsugumomo seemed like a standard shonen for four episodes. Maybe a little heavy on the boob jokes. Then it goes full hentai (in retrospect readers of the manga were probably wondering why it took so long.)

Smartphone initially looked like it was having goofy fun with the isekai concept. MC is ridiculously overpowered by way of apology, obtains a cool coat completely offscreen, starts acquiring a harem and then is told that actual harems are totally an option, etc. Then it just became a pretty mundane version of the genre.

Classroom of the Elite also looks like it's going nowhere at this point. The speculation about the show is entertaining, but the show isn't as smart.

My pick for most disappointing has to go to Dive!! Believe me, I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking, but I was expecting something a little more....how do I put this?....not mind-numbingly boring as all heck.

I mean I assumed from the get-go that it would be off-brand Free!, but it somehow surpassed off-brand in terms of it not containing anything good or meaningful from the OG. :/

In brighter news, Fall 2017 lineup is looking pretty good thus far. :D

I am in agreement with you hard to like the characters and no definition who main character is? I would like to think CR already knew about this stinker and let Amazon have it?

For the Winter/Spring

Masamune-kun's Revenge

For this Fall...

In Another World With My Smartphone is one of the letdown. First it was interesting, then swiftly came dull...

Probably Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation, nowhere near as good as the previous two seasons. Majority of characters are gone and the new characters to replace them aren't that great. The races are meh for the most part neither are the "moments" that make Yowamushi pretty great (although Naruko vs Midousuji was pretty awesome). The "abilities" in Yowamushi Pedal are already ridiculous, but what the fuck is this,

come on now. I'm still excited for season 4 although my expectations aren't going to be as high as they were for s3.

Seriously though. You know an anime is bad when your favorite character is the main character's dog XD

Maybe the people at Crunchyroll have psychic powers that let them know when an anime is gonna be a flop?? Would make sense why they didn't try to fight for it...

Out of curiosity, why didn't you drop Eromanga? I only kept with it because Digibro and Best Guy had selected it for analysis (even though they said you didn't need to watch it to keep up with their reviews.)

I tend to avoid anime I'm not into but one comes to mind I just couldn't get into.

Yowamushi Pedal: New Generation: This show I found uninteresting. Made me realize why many sports anime end when the team wins. Like now they won, not much to do when like many of the characters will be graduating.

well, i actually liked Oreimo. though it had questionable themes, it also had several other charms that led me to enjoy it. since it was by the same creator, i was hoping Eromanga would eventually become something similar, so i stayed with it. i also stuck with it because i knew it would be a controversial show and wanted to be able to read those discussions. but in the end, it just didnt appeal to me the way Oreimo did.

Let's just say that this is going to be me when I "Dive!!" into next season's anime: hopeful, yet knowing it could all end in a disappointing "splash"

I watched Oreimo after starting Eromanga and was surprised to see that the same thing had already been done competently. It made Eromanga seem even more pointless, but kind of informed why most of it seemed phoned in.

For better or worse, CR had no choice in the matter. Dive!! was summer's noitaminA anime, and Amazon has had the contract for those since just before Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress aired (spring 2016). For that same reason, they will also have Inuyashiki for the autumn season.

While we don't have any information on how many people viewed titles on Anime Strike, the number of people bothering to rate each series at least give us their relative popularity. On that basis, Dive!! was near the bottom, although it fared better than titles like Altair, Sagrada Reset, and Lights of Clione. It also did better than Hell Girl 4, although that also being available on CR has to be taken into account.

For the curious, Re:Creators seems to have been the favorite on AS, followed by Made in Abyss.
