Thank you for writing something that wasn't a youtube-commenter quality level post.

There's a new book that was published this year about how zoning laws were used in past generations to prevent black Americans from accruing wealth and thereby enjoying the fruits of economic prosperity like white Americans. The name of the book is The Color of Law. For balance, I've included a review from a conservative magazine. Quote from the review follows below.

http://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/the-roots-of-segregation/

The Color of Law does a magnificent job explaining how much the American Dream, although commonly imagined as building the next Apple or Facebook in a garage, has relied on the multigenerational growth of wealth—homesteaders owning and developing land to pass on to the next generation, immigrants working in factories to allow their children to go to college. But from racialized public housing and zoning, the enforcement of discriminatory housing covenants, and the overt denial of government-backed financing for black Americans, to sanctioning private mobs to drive African-Americans out of middle-class neighborhoods, government intervention kept many from partaking in this generational prosperity. While white families accrued wealth as housing prices grew from the 1950s onward, many black Americans fell further behind. Rothstein magnifies how the “cycle of poverty,” “disintegration of the family,” and other bywords used to describe black impoverishment can be directly attributed to government decisions—or government failure to enforce basic rights, in the case of violence against new black arrivals in white neighborhoods.

Privlidge is absolute bullshit. Its an endless pity circlejerk where you try to gain imaginary points for prostrating yourself or attacking others for no reason.

This is great baizuo, perfect description for these idiots. I think i'll use that word from now on. And because it's Chinese, I think it'll piss sjw's off even more than the term sjw does.

I'll just say this. Privilege does exist. The mere concept has never been the issue. The issue is the implementation. Privilege should be something which individuals examine about themselves when in a position to give to those who are less fortunate. Privilege should not be used as a weapon to attack people or shame people into feeling guilty about things outside of their control.

The denial of the existence of privilege as a concept or even that there are societal advantages or disadvantages prescribed to individuals based on race seems to be founded in politics rather than logic.

That said, this particular list is a poor representation of the concept and a pretty good representation of the implementation issue I was speaking about earlier so I understand the disdain to some extent.

awwww poor guy. If a more qualified "colored" man got a job over you because he's more qualified, that's just the way it worked out. These things happen.

Pretty weak list of privileges right there. Where's all the good white privilege?

Where's not having my resume thrown in the garbage because I have a black sounding name?
Where's not being followed around by security anywhere I shop?
Where's being able to interact with the police without having it randomly and sporadically result in my death?
Where's being less likely to be pulled-over or harassed by the police?
Where's being less likely to be convicted for the same crimes?
Where's getting shorter and lighter sentences if convicted?
Where's never having my humanity questioned?

There's real, tangible benefits to being white that this list barely even sniffs at.

Yes on all of the "and I can assume they're not being racist" questions.

No on the "and I can be completely surrounded by my race" questions.

.............. because I don't have a race.

I "can easily by" [sic] anything with a black person or a white person or an asian person or whatever, but I don't consider myself any more or less like any one of those than any other...

When I was a kid, I don't think I really noticed a difference between Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, or Esmeralda, but I did sort of notice that the latter three looked more like me... but since I'm not actually any of those races, is that cultural appropriation?

Race isn't a skill. It being considered a "skill" and being chosen for it is about as patronizing as it gets. It's like saying, "Oh, you don't have much in the way of our usual qualifications, so we'll be nice and count your phenotype."

Did you miss the part where I said more qualified? What you stated isn't how it actually works, it's how the race baiting xenophobes want you to think it works. If you have two qualified candidates and they choose a black person to have a more diversified work force then so be it.

Yet you have no issue with the Japanese being so racially pure and proud and racist and lack of immigration and their history and etc.

I didn't "miss" anything, then. "Diversified" isn't "skilled." The primary issue that folks usually have with "diversity quotas" and whatnot is the emphasis of ethnicity over practical skills, which is counterproductive to the supposed goal of treating people as ethnic equals. Ethnicity a qualification? Either for or against certain ethnicities? Mixed messages. Sure, it happens, and it's shady. That's the average concern, not bona fide xenophobia.

It's something that we're just not going to agree on, I suppose. See you around.
