Nice to have Kaleido Star completed, it's an excellent show.

From what I recall about Noir, it had excellent music, nice action, and forgettable story & characters that didn't make much sense.

I agree, this is one of the ones I have on disk.

From the South African territory, it seems likely it started out as a US/Canada, UK/Eire, Oz/NZ, South African "English Language Country" license ... it's a shame that Madman doesn't let their shows stream on Crunchyroll.

Debido a que fueron licenciados por Funimation antes del acuerdo.

Además, mientras Funimation siempre incluye a Estados Unidos y Canadá, no son sólo para Estados Unidos y Canadá. Por ejemplo, Noir es también para Sudáfrica.

As someone who hasn't watched the various Tenchi series' since they aired on Toonami I thank you for the in-depth explanation. So many things to watch, so little time.

I do not think I ever got to see the end of Tenchi in Tokyo. But I will get to now.

Thankfully I was able to acquire a copy of the DVD when it was still available so I was able to see the end I thought it was good.

AHHH! More shows I can't watch here in the UK ... Dam licence holders hording the UK rights. Companies like Manga entertainment, Beez, ADV need to relinquish their rights if they've no plans (or way) to sell physical copies any more

Figures crossed we can get Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar here on Crunchyroll. Could watch it on Funimations streaming site, so lisencing shouldn't be an issue

honestly, since it's not the dub of Tenchi, it's not worth watching. the english dub cast of Tenchi was far better than the Japanese cast, especially when it came to Washu and Ryohko.

I don't think very many anime fans who hysterically bash Tenchi in Tokyo ever DID get to the end of it--
Most of them looked at the first two or three episodes, threw big public fan-tantrums, and then gave up on it..
(And that's leaving aside the OVA-raised faction of the Tenchi fans, who look at Universe and say "No, no, no, it's shouldn't be a harem sitcom, it's an epic sci-fi saga!!")

It gets better after the mid-stream reboot in Ep. 7, after the first director/runner/someone was kicked out, and the show focused on a new actual story arc that more involved the Universe-canon character relationships.
Not that the first six episodes weren't funny; Ep. 5, where they all go to Tokyo to get part-time jobs, is about as flat-out funny as those messed-up first episodes ever get.

Tenchi in Tokyo was the next TV series, released in 1997. It again re-booted all the characters, created its own mythology, or as some fans (myself included), described it as watering down what had already been watered down.

Tenchi in Tokyo...well, the best most can say about it is that it isn't as good as Universe or the OVA. In my not so humble opinion, it is the worst of all the Tenchi series. Ranking behind OVA, Geminar, GXP and Universe. It does have some fans, but most critics and fans rank it behind all the other continuities.

Tokyo followed directly upon the Universe TV canon, so it was more "family" sitcom for Tenchi's Overaffectionate Bunch, than any of the overambitious off-topic galactic improvisations of GXP or Geminar.

The later, "fixed" half of the series takes the crazy family dynamics of the Masaki Harem, and throws a wrench into the mix by bringing up abandonment issues, for the characters as well as us:
What if Tenchi found his own girl at school, like any other normal teen, and, for various reasons, there was suddenly...no reason for the cosmic freeloaders to hang around any more?
Ayeka becomes the only one to notice this, and it's oddly touching as we're following her frustration to find out why this is all happening. And then, of course, we find out the real reason why.

Of course, the writers had to throw in yet another backstory-canon reboot just to throw out the messy first six episodes, but in this case, it was emergency surgery.

It's not just "excellent", it's good Junichi Sato.

We have another Energetically Optimistic Sato Heroine, but unlike Usagi Tsukino, she's actually good at what she does, making the show another Training-athlete/Work-responsibility series as she learns the Cirque du Soleil Kaleido show must go on.
I'd say it's "Good for kids", but I've heard parents say kids had problems not with the overstylization, but with the idea that our heroine risks injury with her circus acrobatics. Otherwise, it's addictively cute, but New Wings, eh.

They don't need to relinquish their rights, they just need to do a package deal:
(1) all of the series they sublicensed from Funimation, if and when Funimation delivers the material to Crunchyroll, they grant the rights to also stream to the UK/Eire
(2) collect royalties

It really is that simple. No single series can cover the contracting costs for these kinds of catalog titles given the viewership ... but all of them taken together ought to be able to do it with plenty left over as profit. Especially is it's just a permission contract, with no material delivery requirements.

Tenchi muyo ova was not finished when it first came out, there was more to the story. They recently made more and tried to give it an end.
Tenchi universe changed a few things from the OVA but was Pretty close to the ova and was supposed to give it an end while leaving things open for more adventures. The ending of Tenchi Universe is beautiful in my opinion and I never get tired of watching it. I agree with the person that said that Tenchi in Tokyo is the worst of the three.
