Welcome to the NHK was the first legal title I saw on CR back in 2008. That was still back in the days when they were a fansub site, but they had worked out a deal with the rights holder (which wasn't Funimation at the time). CR was advertising it on a banner on The Anime Network (which at the time looked considerably different than it did in recent history), which was what led me here. Unfortunately, the rights holder (Gonzo) decided to stop that about half way through the series, so I ended up seeing the remainder on a DVD rental from Netflix early in the following year.

Holy frig! Ai Yori Aoshi. That is an all time classic. Aoi was the original waifu and Kaoru was the OG husbando. This just brings back so many memories. I'll definitely give it a rewatch. Thanks CR!

Also gotta love Kore wa zombie desuka. I need to rewatch that as well.

Welcome to the NHK... great acquisition! Watched it on Funimation or Netflix a couple years ago.

The CR catalog is looking good. But I keep wondering what Funimation is getting out of the partnership. All of the reasons I had to subscribe to Funi are gradually appearing on CR.

Funi will be able to (cherry-pick and) produce dubs and disk releases for simulcasts and other titles which would previously only be available on CR (where licenses allow), plus stream those on their site, and (again, where licensing allows) supposedly will get access to stream dubs which are here. The sharing agreement from Funi's viewpoint is here: http://www.funimationnow.com/faq.

And of course, neither is going to reveal any nitty-gritty financial agreements, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that CR is paying Funi streaming royalties on their licensed content, and vice-versa. Since Funi was already allowing at least some of their content to stream many other places (Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, Anime Lab, etc), they must have a solid financial return on doing that, so why not tap into CR's greatly increasing viewership as well... But this whole paragraph is pure speculation on my part, I'm not claiming that any of it is true.

There's also more exposure of older titles which should, at least, somewhat energize previously released disk sales. CR had, just before that, announced that they would start doing dubs and disk releases. They essentially stopped CR from becoming yet another competitor in that market while (at least partially) getting those rights for themselves, and lowered the competitive bidding between the two companies each season, which was driving up licensing prices.

welcome to the NHK gotta be one of the greatest animes of all time alongside steins gate and gurren lagann and few others.. seriosuly if any of you haven't watched, I strongly suggest doing so! specially if your the type of person who barely go out.. it did changed me and while I may be going a bit over reacting I still think is a MUST WATCH.

@DevinKuska it doesn't has open ending, what are you talking about? it ends perfectly well.

Welcome to the NHK is one of the best depictions of anxiety and depression in anime. Great series.

Man! I was looking on MAL a couple of weeks ago and saw this show called 'NHK ni Youkoso!' and thought, "I really want to watch that! Guess I will wait till it comes to CR". Well looks like my dreams came true!

NHK for the UK? Oh yes. Is this a zombie? US and Canada ony, booo. I know you're only porting these from Funi bur I'm sure that Funi had ITAZ? on their UK site, even if they didn't with the million plus paid monthly subscribers you were happy to crow about a few months ago surely you can afford to get rights for more territories. I'd much rather stream anime legally rather than going back to other means.
While we're on the sbject of money how much does it cost to hire the people needed to convet away from Flash? It's getting rather annoying that I can't stream other than through the app (which is stupidly data hungry - about 750 meg per episode even on lowest quality setting) as my browser no longer supports Flash and even Adobe are killing it off soon.

Never seen any of these and only heard of one of them before. NHK seems to be highly recommend in just these first 2 pages. Will have to give it a look.

I haven't taken the time to sit down and see what the most recent Funimation acquisition is that has come over as a catalog title, but I don't recall any that were recent enough to say you can expect either of those titles for quite a while.

Except for the first 2 episodes, Gosick was just added to Funimation's streaming on September 5, and Hyouka on September 26. My impression is that they haven't brought over any catalog titles they've had for less than about a year (with the possible exception of the very first batch).

Two things I remembered the most from years back when I watched Welcome To The NHK:

1. That "Baby Human" song

2. The one scene showing the online bullying on internet forums

Love that Crunchyroll just keeps getting stuff that I wasn't able to finish because Netflix moved it out of their rotation.
