The Submission period for CrMoWri has ended! congrats to all who entered.

The judges will be working for the next two weeks to read and evaluate all submissions. We hope to have a decision then. I'll also be hiring one more judge (just have to look through my submissions..)

Anyways, what did you think of the contest? Intend to stay around and watch the society? Would a CrMoWri2 be good?

The submissions have been locked, by the way. No more edits. as soon as copies are made by the mods, they will be opened again.

I'm with you ezra_kulit...
It's nice to think that things like this exist... And I hope in the future it may help those who wish to be known and be recognize, to let open their talents and interests up and interact in the society as what they wish to be.... (I'm one with them! )
As for the contest, well, it was really a pressurizing event, since it came up during the busiest and pressuring time of my days... Until now...
Well, what ever be the result, God has still blessed us all...
About a CriMoWri2, well, why not ?

The idea for the contest was cool. This was my first time submitting a story for a contest.. so it was kind of fun. So yeah, a 2nd CRMoWri would be great too.. especially for anyone who couldn't finish up their stories on time for this contest. So when are you planning to start the 2nd contest?

And yeah.. I don't want to leave this group either. Since there'll be lots of interesting things to read.

I've got one more question. Can we know some statistics about the contest? Like... altogether how many submissions you received, via email and forum threads, and how many made it to the first round.. and so on. Only the numbers, not names.. till the final announcement.

I too will start trolling these forums thanks to this contest. So I guess it was a success for me too.

I think contests are a great idea all around because it forces writer's to write outside their comfort zones. To write under a deadline and under certain rules. As such I'd love to keep the competition a bi-monthly (at the slowest!) event. I have some suggestions for future Themes as well to help liven things up.

1. Comic - This would be a one page comic which in my opinion is one of the hardest comics to do. This can be one to four panels in length. One panel comics being the hardest in my opinion. Oh, and order of the stick proves that even stick figure comics can be funny so have fun. (This also brings in some of our artists and could be a dual contest. Writer/artist teams and such. )

2. Genres - Either seperate catagories by genre or each contest a different genre. Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, Darkness, Light, Mystery, Romance, and more. Each genre takes a different approach and yet can be done in the same setting. Let's see you flex those writer muscles!

3. Poetry - For all the lyrical minded folks out there. This would give us the short poems for those who couldn't write anything long this time. (I'd make this deffinetly a shorter time frame and such) Haiku's could be a seperate contest or a second catagory.

4. Music - Care to sing a song? Write some lyrics to either a song selected from a list or made from whole cloth. (Like if I said write a song to the tune of Row Row your boat or something. )

5. Series - This would be a yearly prize. THe idea would be to see who can write a new chapter to their story every month. So in the end you have a 12 Chapter book. This would be a biggie but in the end you should have a "ready for editing" book that you can use anywhere that doesn't require "no previous publication." Plus you'll get to play in the "large format" of a novel.

6. Opening Sentance - I stole this idea from a classic writing competition. The idea here is to write the opening line to a certain genre of book. This can be a "Worse" or the "Best" (or both) competition. For instance if you were writing for a mystery novel your first sentence entry could be, "It was a dark and Stormy Night." (Cliched I know, but that's where the idea came from) This would be another short contest and you could do dozens of catagories and such. From genres to best and worse and so on. This is another important writing tool as well because that first line can really set the tone for your entire book.

7. Pitch - Can you pitch me your script or book idea? Do you know how hard that is? Pitching competitions are another intersting and fun one (which I've been trying to get in on but never seem to get around to. :p) that tests a writer's ability to sell their idea and be concise! You would be writing the three basic versions of the pitch: the ten second pitch (one sentance), the thirty Second Pitch (3-5 sentances), and the one page letter (this is often a letter of interest, a synopsis, or a couple other names I've heard. Often times this is also the five minute pitch). You'd be surprised how hard it is to get your idea across in such a little amount of time. Though you'd be surprised how easy and silly the 10 second pitches can be. Here are some famous examples:

1. It's Wagon Train to the stars! (Star Trek)
2. It's Jaws in Space. (Alien)

My idea would be a 3 round competition where you cut down the entries as you go. Everyone submits a 10 second pitch. Then if you get past that round you get a 30. Finally the top 3 or so get a one page pitch. This keeps folks interested and makes the judging easier since all the entries are short.

8. Screenplay - Ah, my favorite form of writting. This can also be a play as well. The idea here is you write the first 10 pages of a play, movie, tv show, what have you. Why 10 pages? Because in TV 10 pages = 10 minutes. If you don't have the viewers in 10 minutes you've got nothing. This is also a standard in screenplay competitions. The biggest problem with Screenplays for a writer is getting this idea into your heads: you can only write what can be SEEN or HEARD. No thoughts, no emotions, nothing. Screenplays can be VERY hard or very easy depending on how you think/write. For me screenplays are EASY since I rarely write thoughts and feelings into my stories.

Hmm.. I think that's a big enough block from me. BTW I'd be willing to be a judge on some of these competitions since I suggested them. Heck if I judged I'd probably submit some prize money too.

@ ezra_kulit: Thanks =)

@ GozerTC: Wow.. what a lot of great suggestions you've got there. I second them all. =D Most of them sounds very interesting and challenging. And this would definitely bring out a mountain of ideas, and will keep everyone in this group active throughout.

yeah do a 2nd contest would be nice, like a annual or semi annual thing...fun fun.
I like it, it gives me motivation to put my ideas together in a story and make my brain work. Its also nice to read other peoples works, I mean wouldn't it be cool if they got big and you read it b4 everyone else in the world, haha, nice.
