(I live in Australia where it's beginning to be legalised medicinally) For me personally, i couldn't care less whether they do or not, but the thing is people are going to use it regardless. So why not make it legal, control the distribution, select growers and highly tax it to make some money for the country?

1) there is no risk of overdosing so it's safe

2) it has a wide range of medical uses for the public

3) behavioral changes while on it are safer than alcohol therefore not really bad for the public at large

4) tax money

5) reduce crime

6) decrease taxpayer burden to incarcerate and bring to trial small-time nonviolent offenders

7) I like it!

Now don't get me wrong here because i personally agree with reason number 7
But there are some serious issues with it, it's true that you can't overdose, but:

-In certain people marijuana can bring about serious mental health issues eg. depression, anxiety, schizophrenia etc.
-As with anything, smoking it is bad for you health.
-It is very addictive (though it doesn't have serious withdrawal symptoms which is a plus)

As I know someone who has 2/3 of the above who smokes it for general use I say no for general use but I have no problem at all with medical use.
General use it might seem fun at first but live with/be in a constant contact a long term user and you will see how much it actually affects them. ^ specially with the above.

Yep, people seem to hear that you can't OD and that it has medical benefits and decide that it has zero risk with out doing any research. but then there is also the opposite end of the spectrum the people who completely forsake the medical benefits and buy into what is basically propaganda about it.

No, don't legalize it

The government will destroy it if it is legal.

Who do you think the Government gets to grow it? People from the streets, people who know how to do it right. Get criminals to do the work for the government, right? because that's who they are in the eyes of the law, and the people who abide by it, but its ok if it makes the government profit, right? Hypocrisy ! The only ones who benefit are the ones who grow for medical purposes, but even then they are on the black market for cross straining seeds, and traveling to grow ops around the world, making millions themselves as they keep the flow of new and powerful marijuana on the market ( It is not illegal to buy seeds, but it is to grow) . This is what the government wants for themselves, not the people.

Good thing I don't have it in my life as something to pay for, just be the occasional smoker. If you start paying for it weekly, you are too far gone as an individual. To consider it as a necessity in your daily life, you have lost the will to live a meaningful one. My opinion still stands, as someone who has seen the culture, you cannot prevent what has been in full throttle for years.

Even just allow people to grow it themselves for personal use. This can be soo simple, but yet people need to take it too far. You can purchase the seeds from a dispensary, and you could have a yield that would last you months, keeping people off the streets. This is what they should do. This makes the most sense, and this is the only way you are going to solve this. you have a limit on 5 plants that is documented, and you know for a fact it wont be tampered with.

but noooooo, that wont make anyone money that just makes people responsible and considerate for their own personal use Why does the world need to make issues so fucking comlicated?

Only in medicinal form should marijuana be legalized. There should be an extensive screening process to ensure that only those who need it get it.

once that door has been opened then it will only allow more and more. I know how this works, history shows this in plenty of ways

I think it should be legalized. I also agree with you tht people are gonna smoke anyways so if you can grow it yourself, or know that its coming from somewhere trustworthy, then you won't have to worry about it being laced.

I think there should be a middle point. Arresting people for holding marijuana seems pointless to me, but making it completely legal would end up abusing it. The fact that you can only get it from a certain source today means that most people are more careful with how much they partake. It would be nice if it could stay illegal, but most law enforcement officers just had this unspoken rule about not really giving a shit about weed.
