Not sure how up to date these links are, but we do have "Superheroes". Just not in the way most people think.

I could make food disappear pretty fast. That's a pretty legit quirk.

Jurdisdiction, due process, laws and stuff.

Most superheroes are vigilantees or war heroes. Essentially if you want these figures you're gonna have to read up on history. People who like Super Heroes and this who like history tend to have a big divide between them.

We don't get "superheroes" because magic doesn't exist and all super-powers are magic. Where they're not, the technology based ones (iron man in your original post) would have changed society because that's how science works.

The fact that 1 guy can come up with a fusion reactor the size of your palm should have changed western society as governments got down to checking the safety of making the iron man suit power system scale up into the national grid. None of this is even mentioned because most writers don't understand how scientific advances they see in their lives come from years of background work and research.

Or you can be Batman with advanced training and infinite money. But no one has that combination, or if they do they don't then "go batman".

Regardless of whether people can get powers through technology or what-have-you. There is one thing that does not exist in real life which would prevent any long-term super-heroing: Plot Armor.

I remember there was a guy named Pheonix Jones who would patrol the streets of Seattle all dressed up as a super hero. I think he stopped some fights and stopped people from driving drunk. Then he had an actual "unmasking"on TV which was lame. He seemed like more of a nuisance than a help.

Alright, some people have special abilities like Spiderman and Superman, but what about Batman and Iron Man? They don't have special powers, but they were able to become super heroes. We all got one life, and give or take police is enough to combat most of the villains. If that's not enough we got the military. Now there really isn't a super villain, nor do I want to create one. When everyone's special, no one is.

There are plenty of super villain druglords, slavers, terrorists, and even cultists performing human sacrifice. The average joe is pretty much powerless against these criminal gangs.

It takes superheroes in command of vast resources to do battle against them.

............and there are no super-strong aliens like Superman since if there ARE super-strong aliens I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be so kind as to do the exact things Superman do.

Because when it comes right down to it, very few are willing to take up the mantle of having not to protect the people around them, but everyone else too. Sure you have your cops, your firefighters and your soldiers depending on the country you live in, but imagine all of that on a wide scale basis for basically the rest of your mortal existence. Most would rather want peace with their loved ones from time to time.

If Batman was real, I'm pretty sure what he's doing would be illegal.
It's also pretty hard to have superheros without appropriate supervillains. I mean, otherwise, you're just beating up petty thieves, muggers, and suspicious people who may not have even committed a crime yet. Isn't that basically the plot of Samurai Flamenco?

Superheros are a reaction. The first thing to occur must be a super villain.

because there is a hard limit to the amount of good you can accomplish in life and it is directly tied to the amount of time and energy you are willing to sacrifice, as well as the amount of control you have to why am i replying on the internet to a thread about super heroes
