Not sure if your area's gas stations have these types of pumps, but my local gas stations have a notch where you can rest the trigger of the pump so you don't have to keep holding it down. You can rest it, let go, and wait for the gas to fill up.

If you can do this, do you prefer to wait outside or inside your car while the gas is pumping?

I prefer to wait outside but my parents prefer to wait in the car.

You're supposed to wait outside.

But the odds are so low that you'd actually spark a fire with static electricity generated from entering and leaving your car, why not roll the dice and see if today is the day you get lucky on a long shot and become a crispy critter?

I normally wait by the pump unless it's EXTREMELY cold. Why not just get some "fresh" air while I wait?

You should wait outside by the pump if you're the one pumping. For obvious safety reasons leaving the pump while it's pumping is never a good idea. Besides, what's the point waiting in the car for only a minute? It doesn't take that long.

Yeah. Unless you wanna keep the guy company which sounds creepy and stalkerish, we stay in our vehicular devices.

For sure, I like staying with the confines of my doohickey on wheels, with minimal eye and verbal contact like the weeb I am.

I like to live on the edge, I start the pump and go inside the store and get a drink or some candy while my gas is pumping

You are required to maintain presence at the pump, in case the automatic stop doesn't work, the nozzle falls out, someone comes up and starts illegally pumping fuel into their own illicit container, someone starts illegally pumping fuel into their own illicit stomach, a child wanders by and the Man on Fire shows up out of nowhere, eagles attack the pump thinking the nozzle is a snake, or other standard possible situations.

I wait right next to the pump, even if it's 20 below 0. Just in case something does happen to it
