When i watch anime on the crunchyroll app i get black bars. The black bars annoy the hell out of me. Vlc media has the fill option and i use it all the time to watch movies and i love it.
If crunchyroll adds a fill option for s8 i will 100% purchase a membership.

With a 2:1 (18:9) screen and 16:9 content, there are only two ways to accomplish this:

1. Stretch the material horizontally, which distorts it (although not nearly as bad as stretching 4:3 to 16:9).

2. Expand the video so that you are actually missing material at the top and bottom. Normally, this would also mean softening the image, since the 1:1 pixel ratio would be lost, but even the S7 used a screen that didn't map 1:1 to 1920 x 1080 (but at least it was the same aspect ratio).

Personally, I have a hard time understanding how people could be so bothered by some black bars that they would want to mangle their video in one of these ways. That said, don't expect CR to address this until there are enough 2:1 screens out there to make it worth their while, and then probably only if they can use the same method for all Android phones of that type.

I have the Pixel 2 XL
the black bar isn't annoying since it's OLED but what is annoying is that the video isn't centered so the rounded corners cut off the left side of the video a bit
