As long as man exists world peace is impossible. Unless it's some kind of hive mind like the borg.

So I say gimme the billion

I don't care for flashy cars, but that large amount of land and the idea of owning a castle sounds appealing to me however. perhaps traveling the world, learning language, settling into another country... these appeal to me as well.

World Peace. My vision of world peace. Which is me, ruling all of humanity as the Eternal God Emperor Ryuko I, Lord and Master of the Human Empire. A super centralized society geared toward efficiency and obedience. All would have to follow me, and my Imperial Inquisitors would brutally put down any opposition, real or imagined. My peace would be eternal.

Wait a minute...

Define "World Peace" though?
All conflicts just ordered to stop? By whom? How are they stopping it? By force? If so, how is that peace?

And what level of conflict falls under this ban? Who decides?
"We still have borders" someone says - how? Which borders?

If some magical genie is just offering you world peace, chances are they'd mean to do it by either brainwashing everyone, or just killing anyone who wants to fight.

If the rest of the people live in fear of whatever happened to the warmongers (and probably their victims as well), then it's not peace.

Take the billion dollars, and distribute it amongst charities you think are doing the work that's most important.
Bringing clean water to places that don't have it. Building schools. Curing diseases. Keep some for yourself, or don't. Don't let some magical genie decide for you. Be careful what you wish for.

The money.

World peace is so subjective it'll never work. Even if there were only two people on the planet they'd eventually have an argument over something stupid so screw everyone else, I'll make myself happy thank you very much!

With money I can f**k off and do a bunch of stuff just to be a dick. Like buy a massive plot of prime land in an affluent area then proceed to do nothing with it other than dig massive holes in it with my personal excavator at 2am, purely because it would annoy people.

Lol, world piece

That term/buzzword is so vague and undefined that anyone can put whatever they want on it, and with that weak foundation it's basically meaningless and empty. Similar to slogans that people use or marketing tactics. I remember Barack Obama's vague-ass slogan "Change" and Donald Trumps "Make America Great Again". It's really the same trite bullshit that people just love to lap up.

Anyways I'll take the billion dollars and buy some land and make a dope ass place to live and go learn the stuff I've been curious to learn for so long.

World peace would last for all of about two minutes before some psychopath out there fucked it all up, so give me the billion.

The U.S dollar wouldn't be devalued by any significant amount. The devaluation from just 1billion dollars would be laughably insignificant.

I would take the billion, and put it in the stock market.

With humans being the way they are world peace would probably only be attainable by killing off the majority of the population so I'd take the billion dollars and my Lambo would be metallic grey.

I'd take the money also but in a currency where I get more I'm not throwing away a chance of world peace for a loss I'd use half to buy stuff and the rest to make life easier I'm not one for flashy cars they just get scratched or stolen...

World peace is the obvious choice for anybody with any sense. Simple fact is being the creator of world peace is worth way more than 1 billion. If I was the one to make that happen, I would make damn sure to cash in on it too. Win Win.... duh

Red and Blue, probably some type of deep forest green one too.

No one said anything about letting a genie decide for them. We were given the choice between a tangible billion dollars and world peace which is admittedly ambiguous, but that is because we don't even know what a world without war would look like. You raise some good questions, but I still think its is an evasion of the point.

If your response is you pick money but with the intention of helping people in the world you are essentially picking world peace, you are valuing human life over your own wealth, but you are just picking the more concrete option because world peace, as you point out, depending on how you define it, could still have downsides and problems of its own.

So you we can either look at this question as Practicality vs idealism or individual greed vs well being of humanity. The only part I really care about is that I'd like to think that people would turn down a billion dollars if they could be promised that instead there would substantially less suffering in the world. Let's says its a reduction in suffering that a billion dollars, even if spent wisely, couldn't ever hope to achieve.

But yeah, even if you end wars, what about overpopulation? I get that it isn't simple and clean (is the way that you're making me feel tonight<---ignore this if you don't get it) and that world peace or the accomplishment of a concrete and tangible goal for humanity on par with the ideal/miracle that a perfect world peace with no surprise consequence would be.
