Despite some initial claims of that the police have clarified and no one is reporting he is a Muslim convert save maybe fringe sites. The Israeli news site you linked has walked back ( well, quietly deleted ) that claim. Follow the article link and check it out for yourself:

https://twitter.com/ArutzSheva_En/status/914790471741984768

There's a lot of confusion over "known to police". The only record he seems to have is a traffic violation. Local police have said he isn't known to them. Federal police have said likewise. But some agencies seem to be reporting that Federal police said he is known and local police said he isn't. While others are saying he is known to local police but Federal police said he isn't known to them.

Regardless, they have said he has no known ties to terrorism and they have no idea what he believes.

As for ISIS. If you go stub your toe on the way to the kitchen in the next hour, ISIS will claim responsibility for it by noon.

one reporter said the local officers couldn't carry weapons stronger than a pistol due to regulations in when/where officers can carry them.
if the report was accurate, gun regulations actually prevented officers from responding more efficiently to the shooting...

It is still not known what kind of weapon Paddock used, but officials said more than 10 rifles were recovered from his hotel room.

wtf over 10 rifles.

i'm loss for words. may the victims rest in peace. the families who lost their loved ones have my condolenses.

We keep getting those shooting everywhere.. I think only solution is to get rid of guns! But those who like to hunts, there will be Official with you to allow you to carry any type of guns you want and once you're finished hunting the Official will take the gun back with them.

If we got majority getting upset about this, well shit.. We're Doom to repeat history all over again!

Your Thoughts?

Most muslims that commit terror attacks weren't very devout and used their martyrdom to absolve themselves of their worldly sins. Or are you commenting on his race rather than the alcohol?

The Japanese have the best system, where they force you to have to take a psych eval to buy a gun. And you have to be recertified every couple of years in order to maintain legal ownership.

The latter is kind of like what we do with cars here in the US (at least in terms of renewing your license). Unfortunately Americans don't take guns as seriously as we do the danger of driving.

This guy was pretty much a mental case. Seeing a 64 year-old snap and kill 50 people is somewhat mind-boggling however.

Not going to change anything, again this was a calculated and planned attack from the scum involved. As per reports the sociopath watched the event for three days before making any movement. With three days of planning and overwatch on a target you'd likely find any means to produce similar results.

It's sad to say but having a mass amount of people in an area is a risk factor for this. Even from domestic attacks to foreign or radicalized terrorist. Think about why all these events have security in general even before 9/11.

That said, it is hard to prevent mass casualty events as some other psychopath will show a way. Then it gets thrown on news for weeks on how they did it, and what not.

Won't disagree that systems could be better, I'd say Japanese is not exactly the best as it practically has destroyed ownership in Japan.

As for cars, just as much die to cars in the US annually as both gun homicide and gun suicide so I'd not make that association. So if you think cars are taken seriously, then well we can talk about how 30,000 dead a year disagree.

If you guys want to keep guns you're going to need to update the system and place heavier restrictions to who can and can't buy guns, maybe even copy Japan's systems and regulations.

I think the biggest issue is the state of mental health in America right now. I don't know how we could fix all this shit that's going on but a more robust program for the mentally ill could help the issue. All I know is that we have a serious problem and we need to do absolutely anything to solve it.
