Having a pilot license doesn't mean you can fly a Boeing 737 into a building.

Right, you don't even need a license to hijack a 737 and fly it into a building. Or load a smaller aircraft with explosives and fly it into a country music festival with 22k people.

Whatever, people have the right to have a gun right?

But, it sounds like the gun used was an assault weapon that is banned.

If so, gun control doesn't work. This is the same sort of thing that people often say about drug control. It doesn't work, the drugs just come in anyway, and we spend a lot of money on fighting it.

This isn't about having laws, it's about enforcing them. Do we want a more powerful police force? I believe so. Illegal weapons, drugs, human trafficking, terrorism, and obscenity have become too prevalent, too damaging.

If the weapon was indeed banned, what kind of law enforcement would be required to keep banned weapons off the streets? Though "War on assault rifles" doesn't have the same ring to it as "War on Drugs".

I think the guy who did this is a nutcase, first and foremost.

But gun control has actually worked in Australia.

The reason it would never work in America is because it would have to come from the federal level. Not state to state where you can drive a few minutes to an hour to the next state, purchase a firearm, and come back home locked and loaded.

The unified effort it would take for real gun control in America is exactly why it will never happen in any of our lifetimes.

Someone going to a hotel armed with ten rifles though. You can't just look at that and look away.

Probably has something to do with Australia not being connected to other countries that are full of violent cartels and many boat migrants to their country get held at offshore detention centers until they are deported.
Also it doesn't stop gangs from being armed with homemade firearms, from little .22 zip guns to full auto subguns that are factory quality.

No amount of realistic policing could keep anything off the streets. Just look at the war on drugs. Unless you go Duterte mode, its not going away any time soon.

I've seen several people speculate that he was using a trigger crank, which costs about $40-50 on the net and is actually legal. Only time will tell how he got the guns/ what mods they may or may not have had. We'll just have to wait.

Fucking Hillary. Can't even wait for them to clean up the blood before politicising their deaths.

The boom alone is still going to be as loud as an non suppressed handgun. It would not have delayed the police finding him since the exact room was likely the result of neighboring rooms calling 911. A suppressor does nothing without subsonic rounds, which would have lost alot of lethal velocity due to the range involved in this shooting.

They found him because smoke alarms went off.

Yeah she is a blithering idiot. Dodged a bullet not electing her. Unfortunately banning firearms altogether won't take them from the hands of criminals. Not to mention that would be unconstitutional.

Beware your Shibboleths.

I could say more, but my policy is to wait 24-48 hours after a Tragedy to even opine. Congrats, this thread made me break the policy for a bit.

can we not turn this into a political discussion? As for Alex, he lost his credibility long time ago.
