Should "white" really be counted as a "race"?
It seems strange how easily people forget that irish, Celtic, French, Swedish, italian , and Spanish are different heritages.

Ethnicity is far more nuanced than "race" which is something I think is outdated and should be done away with.

Tribalism in general needs to go away altogether otherwise human beings are definitely never leaving earth.

If anything we should be celebrating each others cultures, without all the drama involved.

The Irish turning St. Patrick's day as a welcoming celebration for everyone are an example of getting it right.

Yeah, it's fine. What do you want it to say lol? Normal?

I'm not Celtic or Irish or any of that. I'm just a white guy. It'd be silly to have 30 different choices for white races while we can still have Asian, African American, Hispanic. We don't really need 30 different Asian choices or anything. It's just easy the way it is.

Caucasian makes more sense tbh. Making further distinctions as a "Europid" for whites, and "Caucasoid" for everyone else in that group.

Race = continent;
Ethnicity = country (at some point in time )

(e.g. if you were to somehow pinpoint your great-great-greatx20 grandparents' house on a map and see how many different political states that spot has been a part of since then, for any given person who claims an ethnicity, it's likely from the name of one of those countries, even if that country isn't what's there today)

Yeah i think that white should be considered a race. But i see you points, i mean not all Asians are one race, different skin tones and cultures and etc, as with blacks, Africans, African Americans, Aboriginal people are not the same race. Guess you could argue that Africans and African Americans are but yeah.

i dont see why you put Italians and Spanish in the list though, they're not white.

I don't understand the whole skin pigment labeling, but, if it helps them to comprehend and "label" people better then go for it. it's just a label, it doesn't define someone.

The "white race" and "race" is a social construction used to denote a concept from the European cultures. The definition of race has historically undergo many change and now varies between different racist groups but it tend to refer to people of certain skin color. Racism were once used by the European imperialists to justify genocide, death camp, and concentration camp in European colonies and enforced with scientific racism (which are now proven to be psudo-science). Races is also used by anti-racist to denote group who get different treatment and experience different situation just because of their racial classification.

White is a term that has been used to describe someone of European descent. People of European descent are considered to be Caucasian, but the Caucasian race is made up of more than just people of European descent. For example, Arabs are considered to be Caucasian. Although, I've also seen the term white used to describe someone who's Caucasian as well. Terms do change overtime though, so I wouldn't be surprised if these terms undergo changes in the future.

/Facepalm.

It's at least as accurate as "black", considering the number of ethnic tribal groups that exist in Africa, and which were enslaved and brought to the New World.

Or Asian, considering the diversity of ethnic groups that exist in Asia.

I agree with a few others in that "race" descriptions should be done away with. In a world who screams for equality it boggles my mind that we still cling to divisive "Asian/Hispanic/white/ect" labeling. Half the time this label doesn't even describe peoples physical features. I have seen "white" people darker then people in Central America. Michael jackson didn't look "African" or "Black" to me either. The only people who I can think of who benefit from keeping the labeling system is those who play the victim card and those who are oppressive.
