Episode 2

Well looks like Boar is out of the game and is part of Rabbits team. Also the one that caused the floor to collapse was Monkey since she felt killing intent from someone and runs away with Rat. Dog and Chicken form a team and Dong shares information on who he knows about. Knowing that Boar may be a trap set by Rabbit he drugs Chicken to bring out her strength to use as a trap. In the end Horse and Ox notice each other and start to battle.

Dog's plan seems to have backfired, looks like Chicken just crushed his face but not sure if he's dead.
Monkey is a pacifist but this battle seems to rely on the element of surprises so i wouldnt rule her out. not even sure how she caused the whole room to blow up. actually i think she might be in the final three, along with Ox and Rat.
i'm enjoying this so far.

How to survive longer in this game:

1) Don't have so many internal monologues
2) Don't let your guard down
3) Don't get overconfident

I could tell Dog was going to get killed soon from the moment I saw him in the parking lot. I hope that doesn't become a pattern in every episode.

While I like shocking death moments early on, but even I think this is too early. I really like boar and dog and made no sense to give boar that short background and then off her. I would prefer if monkey got killed but of course a character with that personality will most likely survive the whole thing *sigh*

Id say that the backgrounds were given to boar so that we could get her side of the story before she died. This is a Nisio Isin story after all, her backstory and death are probably more about the plot then about the shock value. We hardly know much about this world and thus far, we've learned that there are various "supernatural abilities" and the monkey seemed to think it was possible to bring them all back to life too. At this point it would be hard to guess whether or not any of the deaths are permanent yet.

My prediction about how the narrative will unfold is that the character we know the least about will end up being the "main character" or maybe the antagonist and his/her background will reveal something that completely flips the story on its head.

Nisio Isin is known for his clever writing and symbolism. You can see it in the warrior's names, their methods of killing and abilities etc.

oh my gosh... well there you have it folks, never underestimate a chicken! have to admit, they aren't sparing on the gore and violence on this one. I have to admit, it's interesting how this one is turning out to be. seems like Monkey is the "brightest" one of the bunch, to try for peace than war. however, each has their agenda, I wonder what Monkey's agenda truly is. can't wait to see what that insane bunny is up to in the next exciting episode.

That makes alot of sense actually. Another indicator is you dont see any civilians either, the world seems quite empty.

I have a hunch we know the order characters are going to die in. If you notice both the characters to die so far and the order the characters appear in the ED, it is the reverse of the order the animals finished the race that determined the Zodiac order. In the race, Boar came last with Dog finishing just before them. That means the next character to die, if my hunch is correct, will be:

It also means the winner will be:

EDIT: Note this is only counting the actual Juni Taisen competition since Snake was killed before the competition even began. Basically another way to look at this is this likely the order character backstories will be shared in, and since it seems like backstory will equal death, it stands to reason this is the death order as well and we basically know Snake's backstory will be handled with Dragon since they are twins.

That is definitely an interesting idea. If you consider who wrote this story, however, then I get the feeling that there will be a bit more to it. Perhaps the story will follow this order for a little while; (there is no way that Nisio Isin picked the Zodiac by accident) and then drastically depart from the Zodiac order for some reason.

Also, the sleepy guy with monkey is rat btw.

I suppose I will give this a couple more episodes. I don't see how they will make this a two cour anime.

It's only 12 episodes, which makes sense. It's based on a single novel after all.

tsk tsk tsk, overconfidence will get you killed. If Zelda taught me anything it's to not underestimate the power of chickens.

I think the one thing thats bugged me, and kept me from saying I actually enjoy this show yet, are the deaths. And I'm talking about how they happened. Like, yeah they're gory and whatnot, but they've been kinda boring for an action show imo. The boar at the beginning was just a quick back-hold and stab to the chest, and then the dog's was giving the chicken too much adrenaline and getting his head squished. I'm hoping the next death has a little more fight to it.

Just read some other comments, glad I'm not the only one who thought it wasn't that action-packed for a battle royale.

*Winner Prediction: Monkey*
