depends on the series. after reading volume 2 of LL Sunshine, i'd say the manga version is definitely better.

Out of all storytelling media:

1. Animation
2. Theater
3. Prose/poetry (words, written or spoken, without images or music)
4. Silent, static images, tie with music without visuals, with or without words (so, comics go here)
5. Anything else
Bottom: Live-action film.

In the Japanese otaku media industry, specifically, anime leads by an even higher margin, since the publishing structure for manga just makes for disorganized stories. But I think, also, I'd put drama CDs about LNs (even though LNs would be in category 3, and drama CDs would be in category 4). But it really depends on the voice acting...

I say that about LNs, and I write LNs, but someday, I'd love to write for theater or animation...

Very good. I'm knocking some of the rust off and trying to get back to writing, myself. I almost said hello to you on DA, but then I noticed your last status update.

How about both? I like watching the anime first just cause I like seeing it animated. But then, after I've finished it, I always end up wanting more and the manga will give more source material or just feed my addiction a lil more. LN's are great too, most of my favorite animes are adaptations of LN's.

I think I've posted about this before tho

I do prefer anime overall but some stories work perfectly well (if not even better) in manga form but I wouldn't say I'm anime only. I'm currently reading ReLIFE and despite some pacing issues, I think it is pretty much perfect as a manga.

One form I'm not really on board with personally is VNs. I've tried a few but they just seem to fall into this awkward space between game, anime and manga that just isn't pleasing to me for some reason. I keep wanting more of each component part than a VN has given me so far and I just end up not connecting with them.

Out of curiousity, is there any particular reason you feel this way? I haven't had a chance to read any (official) LL manga so far and you've peaked my interest.

The Death Note manga was better than the anime IMO.

tl;dr no unnecessary drama and better characters. will post a longer version after dinner. it might be a bit spoilerish (this is a given, i'm explaining a little of how the characters are portrayed in the manga)

I like both

1 I like the Manga because sometimes material is left out of the manga / I wish I had time to read more

2 It's great to see a manga animated and in color

3 Anime can leave / change the material / censor or toned the material

4 But anime sometimes add material too !

the biggest problem with the series is that they had to introduce all the characters in the very first episode and introduce a rather unnecessary drama right off the bat. the animation is there, the soundtrack certainly is there, but this rush negatively affected character development, and i can't say it turned for the better.

take Chika, for example.

You

Riko

the anime series puts muse in a high pedestral, even in episode 8. by contrast, the manga, while also putting muse on a high pedestral, they limited to a few pages. there's probably around 3 pages out of 170 talking or showing muse. the manga puts its focus on Aquors - something the anime should have done.

there's probably more to add, but tl;dr the manga is totally worth, and every LL Sunshine fan should read.

no Hanamaru, Ruby or Yohane in volume 2. i expect them, or some of them, to appear in volume 3.
the manga is not showing all the characters right off the bat, and that's good for pacing.
(Mari was shown in vol 2 pages 60-61, but only in passing)

While I prefer anime, the reoccurring problem with it is that many times we either get no real ending (because the anime is still going and they don't want to make more episodes for any number of reasons) or they give us an "anime original ending" which, in most cases, tends to suck and just annoy people. Many anime series keep going in manga form past where they end so if you want the full story you need to read the manga. And then you have series like Hajime no Ippo that go on for 20+ years and just never seem to come to any real conclusion - which is equally as annoying.

So I dunno. Like I said, I prefer anime, but both formats tend to annoy me.

Thanks much for taking the time to put that all together. It's interesting to hear that the μ's connection(s) are less forced in the manga as that was one of the aspects of the anime that I didn't particularly enjoy. As much as I loved Sunshine S1, it spent way too much time in the first half season or so pointing out how similar it was to SIP and how the characters could be compared. Once it got over and allowed itself to come into it's own is when it became much better.

the rush in LL sunhine anime was so bad, they actually had a scene in the very first episode showing
Hanamaru, Ruby, You, Yohane, Chika, all at the same time (Chika and You are barely known to people watching the series at this point)

"let's make Chika and You find Ruby and Hanamaru by chance and have Yohane fall from the skies and have the characters introduec themselves!"
-director

why...

I like both, but more anime than manga.
