Sorry but this was boring and really cringe. I don't like shows like this. Maybe because I don't want to put my dick in a 10 year old with cat ears? I don't know.

Very cute and beautiful backgrounds. Let's see covered just about all the cute girl types, the aloof, strict beauty, innocent country bumpkin, tomboy, short spunky doll, wise oneechan, and the loli. Should be someone for all tastes, I also predict lots of Yuri teasing at the onsen once everyone loosens up.

Oh man that was super cute and really pretty. The music so far is really nice too. I hope this stays nice and chill like this.

Ears + fang tooth = win win. And we have this in droves right now.

This has been my fav. first episode of anything I watched so far this season.

Adorable

it started out adorable, let's hope they keep to the same level of adorableness. I rather like the idea running with this slice of life, rare for me to watch one. I like the details to it and the supernatural theme, can't wait for episode 2. did notice that hint of ecchi however, hopefully it stays low and not influx a lot.

This was really relaxing. Yuzu's so cute! I love her facial expressions and how she kept calling all of the other girls cute XD
Since this is shoujo-ai, I do expect some sort of budding romance between the characters, and I really hope there is, and that they don't beat around the bush with it.
And the scenery was gorgeous!

I second the boring post. The main character is cute and nothing more; no real personality, not much story to her, and not much to do except look flustered and cute. When the time to hot springs is literally the first episode, it's not a good sign. The backgrounds are nicely animated, but it's incredibly stereotypical; i groaned at the cherry blossom scene, because of course, what else would you get in a cliche anime?

Something like Non Non Biyori or Kamichu is how you do a moe anime right, this is just bad.

It's not a cliche or stereotypical, it's symbolic. It symbolizes a new beginning you know like the MC was having going to work at the inn. They weren't there because this is an anime and they were just trying to do the usual anime stuff. In fact that's why they are so common in anime because that is usually what is happening to a character. Try not to be so cynical.

It's true this was fluff, but it was an enjoyable kind of fluff. I loved the contrast between Satsuki's world view and Sakura's. Not sure what's the Japanese equivalent of "All work and no play". Very little world building in the episode but enough to start a foundation. A series like this is driven by its characters so it made sense for it to focus on them then work on the world building later. I have to admit I'm both impressed there's a hotel that large in the apparent era this is taking place in and that it can be effectively run by a staff of six.

Gorgeous stuff so far. I'm loving both the characters and the environments. Just excellent. Tough to say whether or not they'll have a storyline hook or whether it will just be a character interaction focused good time, but I'm on board either way. Great start.

Do you just drop everything? Cause this was really good and relaxing.

Nah, they complain about everything being terrible industry ruining "moe-trash" then claim to waste their time watching things that are obviously going to be "moe-trash" just so they can whine even more about everything being life destroying "moe-trash." It's best to just ignore them.

Apparently, a younger Saber from the Fate universe works at the inn.

It's a cliche because it's used so much as shorthand for real growth. And this anime had a lot of shorthand but little content. there really wasn't much to itself...i mean, standard massively large ryokan inn, standard pushing the cloth a long the floors to clean them, standard furo bonding scenes, standard "discover the hidden beauty through a hidden field of cherry trees" scene, standard slightly ditzy new girl protagonist. etc. Even the animal ears really were there just for fetish fuel, as opposed to having any real reason for them.

I could deal with it if there was decent characterization or plot, but it's really standard stuff. Not sure why even its rated so highly.

I suppose dmdwriter has a point. It is basically a neon sign that communicates "growth is happening", but with no communication as to what, to a character that isn't established quite yet. In any case, characterization and plot are not the genre's strong suits.

I do not dislike the use of cliches in an inherent sense, since these type of series do bank on the time proven idea of moe. In fact, I enjoy these series for what they are, but what made Non Non Biyori special is that the cast was quite charming, especially in their interactions with one another, which dare I say, makes a mediocre moe show into a great one.

I wouldn't lambaste the first episode so heavily. It is just the first episode, of an anime whose genre isn't wholly dependent on things like intrigue or drama, but a comforting thing to watch.

I suppose I am not up for critiquing these series beyond a base level reaction.
