It was an off-hand comment along the lines of 'You don't talk that way to a God!'.

It's really hard for this to NOT be my favorite show this season.

It's up against some stiff competition, but so far has just been pure enjoyment.

It is so much deeper than it's cute outer shell.

I hope more people will give it a chance. It is quite a refreshing show so far.

Well I don't know for some reason after this episode I felt "empty" it's like having dessert for every meal. Yeah it's sweet and delicious but eventually I need some meat and potatoes. Or maybe it's not this show but to continue my metaphor I usually watch this type of show as my dessert after watching other "meatier" shows but since there is a lack of them this season only eating dessert isn't as enjoyable.

Yep, welcome to the iyashikei genre. This type of anime focuses on fluff above all else, putting the bulk of its effort into showing pretty and clean visuals and keeping the stakes at a constant low in order to be as docile and unthreatening as a show can be. The goal is to create a soothing, safe-feeling in the viewer, supposedly as a mechanism for healing or coping. With that comes a pretty shallow experience for those that don't need the help it presents. In fact this is one of the only iyashikei shows I've seen more than one episode of because of how dully harmless they tend to be. This one actually seems to have some character depth and hints at some personal conflicts for its characters, so it's actually one of the more engrossing examples I've seen, so I may still stick with it. But if those attempts at nuance don't keep you invested, then this show probably isn't for you and no amount of scenery porn is likely to change your mind.

So this idea of gods migrating north as being the cause of or maybe just a part of the sakura season, is this a Japanese thing or just one made up for the show?

So here's my thoughts on it so far.

Episode 1, great episode and introduction to the world and characters. Had no problems with it, still don't with the episode. Very relaxing, rich in Japanese mythology culture, and cute characters to boot.

Episode 2 felt completely out of place to me. The way Yuzu was talking about her friends/co-workers made it seem like she's known them for a while and that they've shared many moments, but we haven't seen any of that yet. We see flashbacks of them eating meals and good times but that's about it and even then, we as a viewer didn't see it and so weren't able to connect with those emotions she was having. The end of the episode with her crying and Satsuki talking about leaving to be a Priestess at some point seems abrupt, as we've only started to learn about these characters. An episode like this seems like it would fit better near the end of the season, such as Episode 10 or 11, definitely not finale material.

On another note, the animation was pretty poor in comparison to the previous episode, with a lot of motions such as Satsuki's head turns being on keyframes in slo-motion (which caught me off guard and had to pause the episode to laugh for a bit due to how out of place it was), and again with the full body turn later on talking with the little girl. Also the walking scene with those two characters where they effortlessly were bouncing up and down without much other movement for hair or arms reminded me of that damn Berserk shot, you know the one.

I'm loving what the show has to offer, but if episode 3 can't do it for me, it'll have to be a drop. Such a fantastic high point start to instantly fall flat on episode 2 isn't a good sign for me. Looking forward to next week's episode.

Episode 3

So after episodes about Yuzu and Satsuki, this one is about Ren. One day, she was taking a dip after getting all battered and bruised, and Natsume was there to clean her up. Natsume has been quite a big help as she is always there when Ren runs into trouble, such as that time a guest acted rudely towards her. She has been lacking self-confidence, but everybody is there to help her out. It turns out that Aoi is into sumo wrestling, but he's not exactly someone who is going to cut it as a sumo. Pretty nice to see that everybody has Ren's back even if she isn't the most confident employee at this establishment.

The Yuri was strong in this eps.

Cute as always

I was a bit worried the groping bit would be done as a typical anime joke but the staff was having none of that! Kudos for the writer on that.

Episode 3

After two episodes of Yuzu and Satsuki the focus this time is on Ren and Natsume. Ren is fed up with Natsume and wants to be paired up with some else but once she hears it would be Yuzu decides not to. While attending some guest Ren is sexually harassed by a guest and Natsume comes to her defense. The next day some new guest arrive and they happened to have a grandchild named Aoi who takes a liking to Natsume. While attending to the guest Aoi seems to ignore Ren and this gets her really mad as Natsume is getting all the attention. The next day Natsume and Aoi go into town and Ren is upset about this, so Yuzu gives her some advice. After seeing that Natsume and Aoi have returned she overhears some kinky stuff coming from the room and jumps in claiming Natsume is hers. She then finds out that Aoi is actually a boy and that he was interested in sumo and that is the reason why he liked Natsume. After seeing Natsume hand a comb she bought Ren he sees the cuter side of Ren and is interested in her. However Natsume tells Aoi that Ren is off limits showing that Natsume also cares about Ren that way.

Cute and fun. Not earthshaking, but just really enjoyable in pretty much every way. Yuri is always good and the art style and characters are still great. Really good stuff.

Just in case the obvious didn't hit you over the head this episode, the flowers in the pink tinted flashback were Calla Lillies i.e. yuri. Was I the only one who thought Aoi was a boy from the start? Anyway this is cute but meh, I thought the same about Hinako Note but that kept things fresh every episode and that kept me around, don't know if I will for this, we're pretty much getting what we got episode one lather, rinse, repeat.
