Dafuq did I just watch? Feels like it's trying to out chuunibyo the Fate series, but the direction makes the plot incomprehensible. The poor animation and lazy fight choreography doens't help in the least. The level of edgelord cheesiness almost made up for it all, if the writing was slightly more coherent it would be in the 'so bad it's good' territory.

This fairly accurately covers my thoughts as well. This show is basically Edgelord Cheesiness: The Anime, complete with "X-treem GUITAR Ryffz" to punctuate all of the "Action." And, wow, the action looked terrible.

I don't know what it is with Crunchyroll picking shows to heavily promote, and they do pick the odd good or even great one, but this is looking like yet another piece of trash they've decided to slap their name on.

Thanks mysterious CR contractor translator.

I watched something.

These guys are wearing SS uniforms and the SS had its own unique ranks. I wonder if they are using the SS ranking system or just standard German ranks.

Like in the picture cyberfaust posted the girl on the left is an Obersturmfürher which would be Oberleutnant in regular German and First Lieutenant in English.

The girl on the right is Hauptscharführer which would be Oberfeldwebel in regular German or Staff Sergeant in the American Army.

To be fair, the reason why this thing is so hyped up is the source material- the visual novel. The visual novel isn't edgy for the sake of being edgy or "cool", it has phenomenal writing, character nuance, and a meaningful theme. It is just the anime removes all of that, and in fact the content seen in episode 0 is meant to be read/seen after reading two routes in the visual novel- so you are missing a lot of *context*

That said, yeah the animation itself is pretty garbage. Suffice to say, it is clear the anime is for people who read the VN and not at all an experience meant for people who are new to the story.

So yeah, just read the VN- it is a worthwhile read, trust me. I will go as far as saying it has the best cast of villains in the anime/manga/VN/LN sphere .

Well. That was very shiny and gold.

Other than that, I'm not sure what I think.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially Junichi Suwabe and Kousuke Toriumi. Heavyweight voice casting.

Reinhard Heydrich was a real life Nazi officer, though he actually died in the former Czechoslovakia in 1942.

I guess having prior knowledge of the series would help..... all I got was that it's in WWII and people have powers.

Didn't seem friendly for those who haven't read any source material, which is one of the only times I've thought this going into something blind.

Oddly enough, I just watched a movie about the assassination of Heydrich, so seeing him in this was a little odd. So long as he is portrayed as a very bad man and dies very horribly, I'm ok with it. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel episode, despite the confusion. I expect it will all be explained in time. I find that not having played the VN doesn't really affect my enjoyment of an anime, so I'm looking forward to this.

Well, episode 1 is out now (rather than episode 0...)

Episode 1

Alright, episode 0 was just a mess, but now that the show is onto the main story that things are much more orderly. So Ren, Kasumi, and Shirou are neighbors each with holes connecting the three rooms and after seeing a guillotine in the museum Ren is getting some pretty gruesome images in his head. And then Rea really teases Ren much to Kasumi's chagrin, just like it usually is. But while that's happening, something evil is lurking. Pretty much this is all setup, but nevertheless it does the job.

Well, episode 1 turned out to be better than the messy episode 0.

The school life setting, eerie song, etc. I'm really curious about that golden girl Ren kept having visions about. Not really impressed by the theme song. It just feels average. The other characters feels like they are just there right now.

Still, this week's episode made me curious about rest of the series.

Not sure how I feel about this show overall yet but accordingly to some people, the first episode (not 0) is actually faithful to the VN.

Yeah this is definitely meant for people who read the source material, which I highly recommend!

Episode 1 was a drastic improvement over 0. Glad I stuck around after reading that 0 was just prelim, the cheese factor in episode 1 is top notch.

I thought this episode was pretty good and certainly improved over last week's in execution.

The guy was the mastermind of Einsatzgruppen. Guys like Heydrich and Klaus Barbie are barely known, but they were every bit as bad as Hitler.
