So far this might the best anime of this season, I am enjoying the prequel very much.

The ova and movie were beautiful . I might go read the manga to see what else happened.

From the three OVA episodes, I already knew that this would be something special. This first episode lived up to my lofty expectations. We get 24 episodes? What a sweet deal from Wit Studio!

Heartbreaking to see Chise be so withered by her experiences. When I see her, I can't help but think of Natsume Takashi. Both of them lived tortured childhoods due to the supernatural, and constantly bounced around relatives that never wanted them. Of course, their paths take different turns: Natsume goes with the Fujiwaras, a normal family, and Chise gets taken in by Elias, a mage.

Very eager to see how she blooms under Elias. Speaking of Elias, I'm curious about his story as well. He's very rich and powerful, but why does he need a wife? Is it for offsprings? Except for the head, Elias does seem to have a humanoid body. So I guess reproduction is possible. Perhaps he can't just mate with any random person. Rather safe to assume that Chise's status of being a Sleigh Beggy is a factor. Plus, Elias did compare Sleigh Beggy to a queen bee; whose main function is reproduction for a bee hive. Of course, it is creepy that Elias brings all this up to a child.

So many questions, but I'm very excited to wait and see what this series has in store for us!

I watched the 4 available episodes today and I am absolutely in love <3! I feel like there was a lot of terms from the magic part of the story that were confusing me, but a quick google search fixed it all! The art style is beautiful and the story is amazing so far. I was thrilled to learn that this would be a 24 episodes long serie/season(? ) since most anime these days are only 12 episodes long! I already can not wait for the next episode!

It was amazing. Only thing I could do without is a common thing I have seen in a lot of anime where if there is some humor involved they reduce the animation to 8 year old drawing quality to signal sillyness". The prequels didn't have that and it was a bit jarring to see. Is it really that dificult to animate laughing/sillyness?? Since this show is so beautiful and has a serious tone I didn't think that style really fit. Besides that I am super excited for this series and it looks awesome.

It's actually manga accurate. Elias especially gets drawn all chibi during humorous scenes, probably because he lacks the ability to make most facial expressions.

Of course. "Chibi". That is the word I was looking for. The prequels had such a serious tone I wasn't expecting to see chibi.

Tried going through the end of the OP slowly to catch all those quick cuts; there are a lot of teases in there.

No idea what the context is for any of them but I'm anxious to find out.

I did this, this morning too! UGH. I read the manga and I am so, so happy to see everything that is in those flash cuts from the OP, I love how much is being taken directly from the manga and being inserted into the show.

Wit knocked it out of the park.

I'll be supporting the HELL out of this series. I can't wait for the collectors ed box set.

Yeah but is it to much? Looks like we will get through quite a bit of the manga.

I am not sure... there are 39 volumes of the manga and there will be 24 episodes... so I assume it is going to be pretty closely paced.

I am not clear if we're getting "two seasons" 12 episodes this year, 12 episodes next year type of thing too. And once they reach that 24 is that it, or are they going to continue? I HAVE QUESTIONS. T_T

I believe this is something similar to a slave auction (in more of a non sexual version bdsm sense then illegal) and she was more or less enticed into being apart of it. If you have ever felt the world against you and that nothing goes right. With enough time suffering you might take any path possible to change it. Even in this case becoming a "pet" for someone else. Just so you can be wanted and belong. That doesn't mean you fully think through every situation that could possibly happen.

As always that is just my opinion and way I see the situation.

Non sexual BDSM? I don't think there is such a thing...and yeah becoming a "pet" is not something I have ever heard of anyone turning to no matter how desperate even if someone else suggested it was a good idea.
I saw the prequels and I get she was alone but I really need at least a believable premise (believable in the world that is presented anyway) to get into a show, not really getting that here. An unexplained slave selling enterprise with hundreds of customers just bothers me.

Its not a slave auction. Its a magical one. Rare animals and things get sold there, she just happens to be on sale because she is selling her self. No one wants her, the world doesnt want her, she hardly even cares for herself. But shes a super magical being, the auctioneir noticed that and suggests she sell herself to someone who would want her. Shes a teenager and the idea seems to appeal to her.

Question
Whats a Beggy? I know what a Sleigh is but whats a Beggy? All I got was an Urban dictionary link but I doubt thats it. Or is it just a made up word for the show.

Then why is she in chains (and naked)? Magic or not a human being in chains getting sold to be owned by another is a slave.

I didn’t really like the chibi either but that is a minor point. Elias seems to be lacking in human sensibilities ...which seems to be one of the major reasons he bought her. I liked how in the prequel when he saw her musing over the book he dropped everything entreating Chisi for her story.

I’ve selected 2 shows to definitely watch, and this is one if them.
