Hello, for some 20 years ago my dad bought a bunch of vhs tapes, one of them was an anime, this was long before i had any interest in anime and the show was for an older audience. I cant remember much of it and i have no idea what the name was.
All i remember is that it was set in a sorta futuristic post apocalyptic world where androids have taken over the world and humans are either slaves or close to extinct, the main character is a young boy who only wishes to be enhanced with some sort of biomechanical technology so that he can reconquer his world from the androids.
Does anyone know of anything similar to that?
Might be from the early 90's

Leapfrogging off Yam, there were Casshern OVAs from 1993-94 that may apply. I haven't seen them yet though.

In the near future, robot technology has advanced to the point of self-awareness. Under the leadership of the "Black King," machines have decimated the human population and conquered the world. Those who survived the early holocaust have been enslaved for life. But throughout the hardships, a lone hero appears as the savior of mankind. He is Casshan - a fusion of man and machine driven to combat Black King and his forces to the end.

I seem to remember the Nostalgia critic reviewing a show of that flavor.

Well after a few youtube searches im sad to say this isnt the one... The boy in the anime im thinking of is maybe 10 years old and all on his own. Except for some strange woman he sorta gets captured by.
But im gratefull for your responses, this is really driving me nuts.

Galaxy Express 999.

The boy runs into Maetel. a Tall blonde woman with long hair and fur coat and tall fur hat? yes?

and he rides a space train to the stars?

That's a classic. Good old Leji Masamotto. He also did Captain Harlock if you're looking for something set in the same universe with the same art style.

Galaxy Express three nine. is on crunchy roll as a 100 episode anime. you're probably thinking of the movie which kinda condensed the journey.

there was also a newer Galaxy Express. about a different train and ABOUT the train not the journey.
