I've had problems with Crunchyroll's services but their servers has not been one of them . At least I wouldn't consider them problematic enough for me to warrant a complaint. Their web servers have most certainly been down at times but I can only remember these time periods lasting around an hour.

To answer the question though, I have no idea of CR's server setup and who they employ to manage those servers but there certainly is room for improvement as there is for nearly every business out there.

I've never been able to consistently stream above 480p without it becoming a buffering nightmare. Whether it's YouTube, Netflix, or anywhere else, streaming HD content has never been an issue except on CR. I've tried using VPNs (just in case my ISP has some strange vendetta against Crunchyroll) and other PCs/devices, but the result is the same.

Fortunately, anime doesn't typically look significantly better in 1080p vs 480p, so it isn't the end of the world, but it's still a bit crap.

Edit: Typos.

I am unable to say that I've never been able to access a video or the forums or any other page on Crunchyroll.
I also believe that some people have a misinformed perception of how "servers" work when supplying media, similar to Crunchyroll or Netflix or any other streaming service that provides video and/or audio.
That being said, I think people need to take a step back and realize that the configuration that Crunchyroll is using right now is probably as good as they'll be able to do for the time being unless they get even more premium subscribers or get more funding from investors.

Yes is my answer, as I have experienced on random days latency or "An error has occurred message" more than usual recently. The most that I remember experiencing when I joined in 2008 was the loading time for certain pages and the former chat rooms were longer. There are many errors on the site that require improvements, including the servers stability and other situations that are not being tended to on Crunchyroll.
